Hotel Balmacara looks nice at first but upon closer inspection, falls short. Our room was surprisingly small and the amenities in the room were sparse. Cheap instant coffee, poorly working fans, and a used spoon in the tea area were not impressive. The restaurant was nice and the breakfast was great, but otherwise it was not a relaxing stop on our trip to Skye.

Things were clean, staff was pleasant. The common areas were a bit run down, and there were strange design choices and amenities in the room. The sink was tiny, like barely big enough for a glass of water tiny, but had a firehose for a faucet. Limited towels and no washcloths. Could not get the room cool enough with the thermostat. Good location, but pricey for the quality.

The hotel has recently been refurbished,. Our room was lovely—tastefully decorated, spotlessly clean, and very comfortable. Although it was on the ground floor and overlooked the campsite across the road rather than having a scenic view, that didn’t detract from our stay. Breakfast was excellent, with the scrambled eggs being a particular highlight. The staff were attentive, friendly, and nothing was too much trouble. We only stayed for one night, but it was just what we needed. There was also plenty of parking, which was very convenient. We would highly recommend this hotel and would happily stay again.

Nice property, everything was close and food was really good. Bathroom fan turned on but didn’t help to reduce moisture at all and room didn’t have access to heat control as I just wanted to take the chill from the room for a wee bit and couldn’t.
