4/10 Fair

We had high hopes for this stay after the previous good reviews. We arrived on the Friday night and were hoping for a good nights sleep as we were up at 4.30am the next day to go walking. The rooms are directly above the pub and on the Friday the pub stayed open until 2am with very loud music and even louder patrons. The website stated it closed at 11pm and the sign on the door 12am. However at 1.15am we couldn’t take the noise any more, I went down to the bar and asked if the bar was closing soon. The barman was apologetic and said they would keep the noise down. Unfortunately nothing changed and the party finally stopped just after 2 and the party goers left about 2.20am. We spoke to management the next day who were very sorry and said the bar should have closed at 12 and it accidentally stayed open. Initially we were offered a bottle of wine, after we explained our situation they eventually refunded the night. The next night we had no issues, however the final evening the room next to us decided to have a gathering and as the doors and walls were very thin we were able to hear everything being said / laughed at. Luckily this ended at 12am so we did get some sleep. The hotel do also allow dogs so every time someone went in/ out of their room, regardless of the time of day, we heard a few dogs barking at the noise, however, in isolation this would not have been an issue. The rooms were fine, slightly dated but very clean. If it wasn’t for the noise issues we would return.

Would recommend

Staff on reception really nice and helpful. A lovely room. Bed very comfortable, had a good nights sleep. Loved that we had a range of hot drinks with options that included oats milk for lactose intolerant and bottled water. There was a lovely hot shower. The only downside was the noisy toilet in the bathroom but apart from that, we had a nice stay. Would stay again.

Our room had a beautiful view and we were right in town. There is a nice bar downstairs and a good restaurant below that, but we didn’t hear any noise from those in our room. The staff was very helpful and friendly too. I definitely recommend this place!

Budget hotel

Budget hotel you get what you pay for. It was around half the price of other Bowness hotels. Very dated. Shower no water pressure. Shower door wouldn't close. Sheets and towels were fairly new. But everything else needs updating. Some areas not very clean. Wouldn't stay again.
Julia, 1-night trip

Great for short stay

Decent sized room with a comfortable bed. Room only but we had an evening meal which was very good

The most warm and friendly welcome for me and my dog. Made even better by being able to book the last available table for food that evening, which was delicious. Would definitely come back
