The lakeside cabin we stayed in had noticeably stained sheets and duvets, but the worst part was the terrible, nauseating odor inside. There were swarms of sandflies by the lake at night, and since the cabin lacked window screens, we had to keep the door shut; we ended up sitting in our car until late before finally going inside to sleep, and we left in a hurry as soon as it was light. This was the most dreadful accommodation experience I’ve had in ten years in New Zealand. That said, if you are camping in your own RV, the scenery here is absolutely spectacular.
