GREAT VALUE - CLEAN & WELL MAINTAINED I looked for a clean and affordable place for the weekend in Santa Cruz and The Hitching Post Inn was just that. It wasn't the most modern place but it was clean, the rooms were nicely upkept, the bathroom looked newly redone ... All around, I was very happy with my choice!

When I booked it it was so late. I also called the front desk to let them know that we would arrive very late, he was very nice and sweet and said no problem and he said to just come inside I truly appreciate that and he was so helpful. The place was so nice and cleaned.

This motel is clean, feels safe and has been updated nicely. It's nothing fancy, but great for a couple of days. The price is very reasonable and the office staff was very nice. It could have used a couple more (or fuller) pillows, but overall very nice and we wil be back.

the good: The place was quiet. the grounds were clean, the staff was friendly and helpful, and it was safe. the bad: the pictures make the rooms look way nicer then they are in person. the room was'nt very clean. i slept in the bed with my clothes and no covers, and never let my bare feet touch the floor because it was'nt clean at all. the toilet was tightly crammed between the wall and the vanity. any movement meant your elbows were touching something. half used roll of toilet paper from the last guest im sure. The shower was nice though. parking fills up quick.

Nice enough motel in eastside Santa Cruz. Very friendly and helpful staff, got me switched to a studio suite from the room I'd booked, for a slight upcharge. There is a block of rooms that sit in the middle of the property, but I preferred to have a room in the main L-shaped block with parking spaces and small sitting areas in front, (However, those smaller rooms in the block are a bit less expensive.) Be aware that other than a coffeemaker, the kitchen units do not have ANY cookware, utensils, plates, etc. so if you intend to prepare food in the kitchen, you'll need to bring all your own supplies. Despite being on a busy 4-lane road (Soquel Ave.) it was nice and quiet at night. Given how pricey even the most basic accommodation in Santa Cruz can be (especially on a weekend), this tidy place offers decent value.

Staff in office was helpful. Rom smells extremely strong of cleaning products. It took two washes to get the smell out of our laundry and luggage. Bed was a bit too soft for us. Seems fairly secure but not much effort toward aesthetics or maintenance. Great to have parking/lot was a bit tight. Pretty quick drive distance from Santa Cruz civic center venue. Seems to house some long term residents and some short term guests.
