I had not seen recent reviews of this hotel when I booked - the ones I had seen turned out to be out of date.
From the outside, the hotel looked dated, and this was not helped when we got inside - a very small reception area, which we were informed doubled as a breakfast space.
When we got to our room, we found out that the ties restricting the opening of windows were slightly loose, and the windows themselves wouldn't shut properly (the handle was broken). In addition, it transpired that there was no bolt on the door - people wouldn't be able to get in from outside, but there was nothing to stop young children opening the door from inside and wandering off! We informed the member of staff on duty of this and they found a different room - this had the same issues. In all, we had to look at five different rooms before we got a suitably safe one. This is NOT acceptable.
The result of all this was that, having booked a room with a double bed and two singles, we had a room with just a double bed. I had to use the cushion from the sofa as a mattress and sleep on that. It should be noted here that the sofa has unrepaired damage to it (see photo).
When we left in the morning, we decided not to have the breakfast that was included (cereal and toast in the reception area), but go and spend more money elsewhere.
A very disappointing stay - the only saving grace was the staff member on duty who did all they could to resolve our issues with the room(s).
