Hostel La Macarena is about as central as you can get in Madrid as it’s located next to the Plaza Mayor. Pretty much everything is in walking distance meaning no need to use the metro. The hostel is on the second floor and has an elevator. It’s well managed , staff are professional. The rooms are clean if simple and have decent ac. Rooms are very small and basic so no coffee machine, no refrigerator and the beds are small. If you are taller than 5ft 10in then your feet will go off the end of the bed. It’s a reasonable price for a great location but with few frills. Room came with a tub, but no way to keep water in the tub, so shower only. Water is hot with good pressure. Location can’t be beat, you can walk to the Prado in 20 mins.

Unbeatable location, with plenty of places to eat on the same street. Close to everything, less than a minute from the San Miguel Market, and just across the street is the Plaza Mayor. For easy reference, it's opposite the Cueva de Luis Candela. We thank all the staff for their friendliness and helpfulness, especially Luis; our stay wouldn't have been so enjoyable without his assistance. We would definitely return.

The hotel is super well located, blocks from Mercado San Miguel, the busy the Cava Baja street ( full of bars and restaurants) and the historic area. The rooms are quite small and dated, but overall comfortable. It was very quiet, even though it's on a busy street, I'm not sure if all the rooms get a balcony, but ours did. The staff is very kind and helpful. The downside is a parking was about 10 blocks away and they do not have a contract for pricing so we paid about €32 per night.

The location is tremendous, The room was clean, and cleaned daily. The property was secure with friendly staff. The room is quiet at night. The front entrance can be hard to find on first arrival. Our room did not resemble any of the pictures and the window had a view of the central maintenance courtyard. We were only at the hotel at bedtime but if a view is important perhaps make a request.

Perfect location while vacationing

perfect location,few steps from plaza mayor.. very close to all the restaurants that we wanted to try including Botin,Revuelta,La Campana,, Gines chocolateria and many more. There are also restaurants on the street level of the hotel building. there are 2 metro stations nearby(La Latina & Tirso de Molina stations). Madrid is a very walkable city

Perfect location just 2 mins from San Miguel Food market and the local squares. Within 20-30 mins walk of most other locations on our list. The staff were friendly and helpful. We weren’t planning on spending too much time in our room, so although basic, it was very clean and comfortable, so perfect for our stay.

It was a great find. It is close to everything in Centro Madrid. The room was very small but has a lot of character. It was clean, quaint and charming. The balcóny is adorable. The hostal is conveniently situated, being very close to the Plaza Mayor and numerous good bars and restaurants. Although it is on the second floor, there is a lift. We found the staff welcoming, friendly and helpful; communication was wholly in Spanish. The room and facilities were spotlessly clean, with good air conditioning. The only disadvantage was occasional loud noise from a nearby room.
