A great place to stay run by the loveliest people, feels like a home from home.

Checked in quickly. I was able to use a hairdryer that I'd forgotten to pack. Clean and comfortable room. Nice breakfast.

Get what you pay for (just)

Friendly enough receptionist but room tired, cobwebs and dirty bathroom. The bedding was clean.
Simon, 1-night trip

2/10 Poor

This place was what I could describe as the worst place. They gave my room to someone else and couldn’t get them out and gave me what I could describe as staff quarters no tea coffee I didn’t sleep as I felt unsafe as a lone woman and a member off staff was shouting on her phone most of the night. Keep well away
peter, 1-night trip

6/10 Good

Good for the price.

Fairly clean and basic. Obviously a converted care home. Bed okay, breakfast okay and included. No luxury.
Jeremy, 1-night trip

Horrendous

Dirty and disgusting

8/10 Very good

I stay here most weeks. I like it. It’s good value for money and relatively close to work. It’s clean and I can always make a brew when I finish work. Internet is not fast but at least it always works!

The condition of the 3person room is quite dilapidated, especially the brthroom.
Anthony, 2-night trip

2/10 Poor

Disgusting didn’t stay for the 3 nights as it was so bad. Our key was left on the side. Didn’t see anyone on reception. Place was filthy. Mould in the bathroom. Rust and dirty lamp floor was filthy kept our shoes on. Beds felt damp. Windows were wide open when we got there on the ground floor. Do was not locked !! Should be shut down

It was supposed to be a deluxe room . I would hate to think what the other rooms were like. No facilities at the lodge.Breakfast included consisted of two loaves of bread and a toaster. Absolute rubbish place to stay . More like a hostel . Paid for two nights stayed one as could not face staying another night.

Very basic accommodation with ample free parking

Shelford Lodge reminds me of an old fashioned "boarding house". It is a budget price and everything is very basic. Our en-suite was tiny with many fittings rusted. The continental breakfast is serve yourself with noone from Shelford Lodge present. (You fill the kettle from a tap in the wall). having said that - the free parking is ample (which is what attracted us) and the place was clean

8/10 Very good

Self checkin could be difficult but easy if it goes right. Parking area full of scrap cars and waste. Shower head and sink haven’t been cleaned in a while but bed was clean. Heater stuck on so window open all night on to a noisy road. Disappointed by it really. Wouldn’t take much to make it a really nice place and worth over £50 a stay.
Daniel, 1-night trip

2/10 Poor

Didn't sleep, felt unsafe, breakfast was a joke/non existant and wasn't topped up, no sign of hotel personnel to ask for top up at breakfast. Bed mattress was sunk in the middle, bathroom tiny. Would not recommend. I paid more than a travelodge including breakfast and felt cheated as i didn't get value for money.
Angela, 1-night trip

6/10 Good

My room which was advertised as having a private bathroom - it did have but it was across a public corridor. I didn’t see a member of staff for my whole trip - for check in the keys were left on a table in reception. Breakfast was disappointing - cereal and toast was available - other food which I think included yoghurt and humus but these were unlabelled and didn’t look fresh. The orange pieces looked like they were days old. The whole visit reminded me of being back in university halls.

Very desappointing

Based on pictures and comments I was expecting better quality and overall experience. Noone to receive us but a paper with names and key numbers, and the room keys left on the side of it. Thanksfully the room were clean and comfortable enough. But the breakfast was very desappointing, poor quality, very limited choice, and the breakfast space cleanliness was quite doubtful. I don't recommend unless you have extremely tight budget and low expectation.

Cheap and clean, but won’t be going back.

The place was clean, but very dated. The beds were certainly not the most comfortable and to be honest, both my daughter felt strong “secure unit” vibes. No one spoke to us at all during our stay, which is partially understandable as we checked in very late due to road closures, but it felt a little impersonal. I understand that some travellers appreciate this, but it isn’t our style. Breakfast was included in the price of the stay, but as a buffet breakfast, it was particularly unappealing. Neither of us were tempted and ended up heading into Cambridge early to find food.

2/10 Poor

Awful place - never again

Possibly the worst hotel stay I have had, The check in was just a key left on the table in the entrance with a hand written note with my name The room was cold, smelly and poorly maintained The decor of the whole place was in poor condition, this was very obviously a care home previously as there were nurse call points in the hallways half removed The bed was uncomfortable so we did not have a good sleep for the two nights we were there The only member of staff we encountered during our stay was rude to us as we were checking out less than 10 minutes after the 10am checkout time The whole experience of this hotel left a bad impression on both of us I travel a lot for work and stay in a lot of different hotels around the country Although cheap it was not the cheapest I have stayed in but was very definately the worst by a long shot.

Avoid this place

Terrible, can’t say much more. Rooms run down, bathroom dirty and metal fittings rusty. Housekeeping was well below par, bedding not particularly clean. The shower was either very hot or scalding, no real ability to adjust. Breakfast was in an upstairs day room, continental buffet, kettle, microwave, no staff just make your own. The place was originally a nursing home that was inspected in 2011 and deemed unsatisfactory. It would appear it later closed down and is now this hotel, but doesn’t look as though any alterations have been carried out to convert it to a hotel, in fact, the nursing alarms are still on the corridor walls. The ambiance of the hotel felt more like a half way house for recovering drug users. I would avoid this place at all costs, don’t even consider booking a room here, you will regret it. I now it’s cheap but we’ve had some good rooms in low cost hotels, if there was a Travelodge near by we would have used that but we had to location specific as we where helping our son move into his new property. It not as though we have never been before to Cambridge itself as our son has lived here for the past eight years. We’ve stayed in other accommodations in Cambridge and never had any issues. If you do decide to stay, may I suggest at least a bottle of wine before you retire as this will help dull your regrets.

2/10 Poor

Breakfast service was good but poor services because the online description of the facility that influenced my booking was misleading and did not match the room provided upon my arrival and I had security concerns.

It was an ok stay The hotel could do with some updating and modernisation Was greeted very briefly when first arrived, but not at breakfast or when we left

Do Not Book this property. I really don't know where to start .Bed sit facilities with no amenities, kettle ,cutlery etc, Basic bed, linen, 1 pillow, wardrobe,TV. Private shower room across the hall was disgustingly dirty. Grime around the shower door & toilet ,Shower head could not fix to the wall.Breakfast was basic, with cold meat, tomato's etc, cereal with milk in the dirty fridge. Tea & coffee. I did not see a member of staff at all during this stay and will NEVER !! RETURN.
