A Charming Hotel
When I booked the Gerloczy I was hoping for a hotel of character and charm and not a modern box that might be found in any city. I'm happy to say that the Gerloczy was indeed what I was looking for. We would be happy to stay there again.
It's located in a quiet spot, hidden behind a small park, with its own cafe in front and restaurant inside. We had breakfast (excellent) and dinner there (delicious!), with piano music in the evening.
The staff were very friendly and helpful.
The room was spacious (seemed even larger because of its high ceiling) and the bed comfortable. I normally don't care for windows between room and bedroom, but the hotel had lovely frosted glass panels etched with an Art Nouveau design, with whimsical frogs and dragonflies.
One problem: I wanted a room with a shower, and we had a bathtub with circular frame to hold a shower curtain suspended high above the tub-- and no curtain. I suppose I could have asked for a curtain, but we were too busy doing things in the city, and I didn't think of it till quite late. We took showers but had to be very careful not to spray water all over the place.
