I loved this experience! It was clean, quiet, charming and the staff were delightful. Would I stay again though? If I ever get an opportunity to be in the area again, I will absolutely stay here!

8/10 Very good

Lovely quiet location next to river and good base for Hadrians wall visit. Food, breakfast and evening excellent. Staff brilliant. Room was ok and good access to take dog outside. Would say dogs tolerated rather than welcome as could only use a side room with her rather than bar area in general.

Home made Rabbit Stew after a day of rain and low cloud! Perfect. Came away with a Bacon Sandwich as I had to leave early. Great service all around. Didn't know it at the time but the Landord lets Electric Car users charge overnight

The property was located in beautiful surroundings and there was so many things to do and places to visit in the area too. Our whole stay felt very relaxed and chilled which was just what we wanted. Our room was very clean and comfortable and we found the bar area and restaurant to be very nice too. We had two meals in the bar which we really enjoyed and our Northumbrian breakfast was lovely too. The staff were always pleasant and helpful. We stayed in room no. 6 and our only criticism was that directly outside of our room on the ceiling around the light there were loads of dead flies which looked very unsightly and we were unable to use our kettle as the inside of it looked burnt as if soneone had perhaps let it boil dry, thr kettle needs to be replaced. Our overall stay was fantastic and we look forward to visiting again, thank you 👍😀

Great experience/great staff

Last minute booking for one-night only. Great Country-Inn - a place to escape to, as very rural. Slight problem on arrival was dealt with in a very friendly and professional manager by the two staff members. Ordered basic pub-grub and was extremely impressed with the quality - definitely 10/10 for food! Very quiet in the evening on the day I stayed, but this enabled me to chat with the staff and they were brilliant - friendly, professional and set me up with a make-shift breakfast as I had to leave very early the following day. Would not hesitate in recommending and will certainly stay again.

Fabulous find

We had a very good welcome. We arrived with our dog and we had lost his lead and they were very accomodating in finding a lead for us to borrow. Cannot fault the rooms, service or food. Would definately go back.

Great location for a wedding at Langley castle. Just what we needed for an overnight stay. My boyfriend left his Louis Vuitton shoes in the room and they rang us and arranged to post them which was really good of them.

A little gem!

We've just had a wonderful stay at the Elk's Head. Arrived 2pm for check-in and a late lunch, we were assigned Room 6 which is just opposite the doors into the rooms. A lovely room, fresh and airy, nice big shower, and sparkling clean. We dropped our bags and went back into the pub for lunch - chicken in mushroom sauce for me and chilli for the hubby. Delicious. We were well looked after by Joanne, Kenny and young Archie and enjoyed a few gins sitting in the gorgeous little garden. We fancied a walk but the weather was changeable, so Kenny recommended we do a hop over the road down to the river under the bridge, so we went down and skimmed stones and then walked back up to watch the rabbits frolicking about in the field opposite. Then we played pool in the bar and listened to the jukebox. A perfect lazy afternoon! We had dinner in the restaurant, again, well looked after, nothing was a problem. Garlic mushrooms and carrot and coriander soup to start, then steaks for main course. Kenny recommended the Bavette steak, which was mouth-watering. Their French chef is very very good! Then we shared a sticky toffee pudding for dessert. Our room was great, comfortable bed, white fluffy towels, powerful hot shower, everything you expect. Apart from the odd noises of people coming in and out of the main door, it was super silent, with the only sound of the birds and the river. Blissful. Had a good night's sleep and great breakfast. Will definitely be back.

Quiet hotel in the country

The hotel is in a nice spot. Unfortunately the dinner I ordered was distinctly average. The breakfast was nice though

A lovely pub in quiet pleasant surroundings. Close to Hadrian's Wall. The food and drinks were very good at a reasonable price.
