We stopped here on a whim as we were driving down the coast and couldn't have been more pleased. It is a beautiful property and well situated for exploration of Monterey and the surrounding area, both on foot and by car. The staff was absolutely lovey and the evening happy hour and breakfast were first class. We will definitely stay again!

As we had a dog we stayed in the basement, which was well insulated (no noise from above) A few items of concern: the bathroom fan is not strong enough and we had to keep it running for a long time. The floor and bed was clean but the walls and doors had a few stains that I easily rubbed off. Housekeeping should wipe these from time to time. The blinds did not pull down all the way. However, I loved the hotel, it's a lovely setting, close to downtown and the beach. The staff is friendly and I loved the healthy breakfast options, afternoon wine and charcuterie board and evening cookies. It is a lovely atmosphere.

We loved our stay at The Charles! We had The Buck suite at the top and four of us slept comfortably in its two beds and sofa bed. If someone were very tall, they might be less comfortable, but we found it delightful. Good breakfast and hospitality hour too, excellent coffee and juices, all thoughtfully laid out. We hope to be back!

The room and entire Inn was very clean. I am very selective about a places cleanliness and The Charles was excellent, bathrooms were spotless. Public spaces were just beautifully designed and furnished providing the guests with a wonderful history of the property and the wonderful town of Pacific Grove. We had off street parking that was enclosed which made packing in and out of the property very easy. Breakfasts were excellent with a good variety of fruit, yogurt, eggs. Cookies and wine were offered in the evening and cocktail hour respectively. Just made for a wonderful stay.
