Breakfast menu offered a large varied choice to suit lots of tastes and requirements. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Location was good, beach clean quiet and secluded from public access. Rooms were large with all good working order facilities, modern and comfortable. Pool large and clean offering beach and sea view. 3 on site restaurants offer buffet, a la carte or bar meals.
Patio included a bath plunge pool with a view.

I immidiately could sense something was off when arriving. Seems the staff are not trained to the level that can be expected for a 5 star resort. Waiting times are long for the staff to react to requests, and even though there is plenty of staff in the restaurants they do not seem to have a structured approach to who is serving who - ending up in waiting times and forgotten orders. Food was also sub standard of what you can expect at a 5 star hotel. I am happy I only had one night there. It would have been a real disappointment to have to live with the food for a full week with no other options available nearby. The hotel is priced below other options. I understood why after my stay and I began reading other reviews. What I do not understand is why Sofitel wants to damage their brand like this. I expected that they maintain same high standard with all their hotels. clearly not the case.

Great staff, the So Sofitel brand is consistently good, oh and no late check out charge, always a nice touch not to feel 'fleeced' when the room is most likely unoccupied until long after we"ve left.

Fantastic hotel in every way. Except that we had a major problem with out toilet (did not function - aka bad luck, can happen everywhere) and problem with the towel deliveries…

6/10 Buena

We had mixed experiences during our stay at SO Sofitel Mauritius. After a long flight, arriving at 8pm, we were left sitting in the dark with a welcome drink for around 10 minutes before being taken to reception. Check-in was efficient but lacked warmth. Our room was uniquely designed and would have been impressive in its day, but it is now tired and poorly maintained. Floors, benchtops and bathroom surfaces were stained, cracked and worn, the outdoor shower door was covered in paint splatters, and the outdoor bath was unusable due to a very slow water supply and leaking plug. For a resort charging premium prices, the condition of the facilities was disappointing. The pool had cracked tiles and leaks, housekeeping once failed to replace our towels, and coffee pods were chargeable after the first two. Reception staff further disappointed us when a simple request for a breakfast box before an early tour was repeatedly ignored. In contrast, the food and beverage team were exceptional—warm, welcoming and attentive throughout our stay. The gardens were beautifully maintained, the beachfront setting is stunning, and concierge Raj sincerely listened to our concerns, apologised and assured us they would be raised with management. The kitchen staff also made our anniversary special with a thoughtful cake. Overall, while the location and hospitality from the food and beverage team were excellent, the resort's condition and reception service did not justify the premium price.
