I had a great stay at the Andover Inn. It’s a unique historic property with a lot of character, and the atmosphere was extremely quiet and peaceful throughout my visit. The rooms were clean and modern with comfortable beds, and check‑in and check‑out were easy. The classic building and well‑kept grounds added to the charm, and free parking made everything simple. Room was clean. Bed comfy. Linens very good. Bathroom sink leaked & left standing water around the faucet & knobs. Hot water tank replacement resulted in no hot water for one full day, then water was brown & took hours to reheat. This was planned maintenance, yet was not communicated to us in advance. Desk staff gave us a 10% discount, which was not commensurate with loss of hot water for one full day during a 2 night stay.

The location of this hotel is hard to beat if you’re visiting Phillips Academy Andover. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the hotel is well maintained considering the age of the building. That said, there are a few drawbacks. The shower stall is very small, and the water pressure is quite low. There are enough power outlets in the room, but the voltage seems to be low, which makes charging devices noticeably slower. If you need to charge multiple devices such as an iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods at the same time, you may need to use different outlets around the room to get them all charged properly. The rooms also feel somewhat dark due to the small windows. On the positive side, the water is noticeably soft, which I really appreciated. The room was generally clean, although I did notice a few spiderwebs in some areas. There is also no refrigerator in the room, which is worth keeping in mind, especially for a longer stay. Overall, the unbeatable location and friendly staff are the biggest advantages, particularly for families visiting Phillips Academy. The hotel is well managed for an older property, but some of the room amenities and bathroom facilities could use an update.

Overall I liked the hotel and would stay again, but a couple warnings to others: I heard screaming kids from the academy across the street through my closed window until later than I would’ve cared for. It was quiet by bedtime and I wouldn’t expect kids to *not* be boisterously playing outside (they should!), but didn’t make for a relaxing afternoon/evening - in case that matters to you. I also found out the hard way that hordes of ants will infiltrate your room if you have any not-airtightly-sealed sweets. I’ve never had that problem before at a hotel, so I wasn’t prepared for that possibility. I chalk it up to it being an older building, so just keep that in mind.
