Best hotel for Pulpit Rock hiking
This is the best hotel for Pulpit Rock hiking. The service and breakfast are very good. The only thing is it is not very quiet because some people need to get up very early to hike to Pulpit Rock.

Best place to stay for Pulpit Rock
My teenage daughter and I spent one night here in June 2025 and it was a great stay! We arrived in the evening and the self-check-in didn’t work because we booked through Hotels.com so we had to check-in at the “Barception”. Then we had dinner at the restaurant—only a few options but good food and amazing views. Room was clean and neat. The Hiker Cafe the next day was awesome. Overall great stay.

Excellent lodge for a lifetime experience
This hotel was the perfect base camp for hiking to Preikestolen. The lake setting is beautiful and there is kayaking and disc golf and many different hikes. The hike up to Pulpit Rock has three steep step inclines met with meadows and wide rock spaces. The hike is worth every step for the stunning and memorable views. It's quite an experience to look over the side of a cliff down about 2,000 feet. The hotel is rustic with it's front steps at the trailhead. The staff are helpful and friendly (thank you Adam and Natallia!). Most surprising feature in this hiking type lodge was the incredible dinners. The Norwegian food is prepared as in a five star restaurant and a had to thank the chef for the Asparagus soup and the meatball and vegetables main course. The room is comfortable with a nice lake view. A great stay!

The hotel is convenience to hiking trail of Preikestolen and view is super. We had dinner at restaurant, first Norwegian food we tasted in Norway, we love it and breakfast had a lot of selection. We loved to stay here.

The best thing about this property is its immediate location next to the Pulpit Rock trailhead. It also has a beautiful location overlooking the lake. The restaurant food was passable but not great. I'm not sure whether affiliated with the hotel but the hiker's shop and food / snack facilities on either side of the trail entrance were excellent.
Our two main critiques....First, .the room we were provided did NOT match the pictures on the website. This is at best a backpackers hostel.....if you are expecting hotel accommodations do not book. We had less than a meter space between the bunkbeds and the wall in either direction and it was extremely cramped for two people to be in the room at the same time other than sleeping. Picture below deck 3rd class accommodations in the movie Titanic and you'll get the picture. We actually left in the late afternoon to stay in Stavenger rather than stay the second night that we had already paid for, in order to get a good night's sleep.
The other issue is that parking is very remote from the bunk houses. So if you have suitcases at all (and not just backpacks) getting everything to your room is a haul over gravel. It appears that they provided wheel barrows that some people used. There is a staff parking lot that could be used as a luggage drop off but it is gated with no guest access. I don't know why they don't at least allow it to be used as a drop off / pick up point.

we stayed in both the hostel building and the main hotel and the hotel is much nicer but the hostel has a good feel too--really helpful staff and a gorgeous lake. Only suggestion is you ca hear the restaurant music in some of the rooms so maybe turn it down a little at 8?
but a great experience and the easiest way to really get into the Norwegian countryside.

This is best mountain lodge if you want to hike the Preikestolen trail. The food is amazing and the rooms cozy, clean and has the best view. We stayed in the lodge for 3 nights in August 2026 and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The feeling that our teenage son was able to walk back to the room and chill while we were still on the trail was very convenient and worked out well.

Clean room, convenient facilities, nice restaurant, friendly staff, especially Arturs the young man at reception. I injured my knee in a fall, and he kindly brought me an ice pack and kept checking on me to see if i needed anything. He also let me resr on the sofa in tje restaurant until my companions cane back down the mountain. I was truly touched by his kindness and thoughtfulness.
