The hotel is in an amazing location, on a quiet beach . The staff are amazing and will do all they can to make sure you are happy. The restaurant serves nice food and drink. We dined in for four evenings and the food was perfect every time. The breakfast on the other hand was disappointing. On many days there was no butter or cakes. If you want beans, it's $2 per person. Never known a hotel to charge for simple breakfast items when breakfast is included in the price of the room.
This hotel is marketed as a luxury hotel. That may be true for parts of it but it should be made clear that, like us if you need a family room, it is far from luxury. The room was very small. On a daily basis we had small spiders crawling around the bed and pillows. We mentioned it to the staff and they were very helpful and sprayed the rooms with bug spray. The bed is hard and only a flat pillow is provided. Toilet seat broken, no plug in sink and tap works but with issues.
In Zanzibar you are advised to use bottled water to even brush your teeth. They refill a bottle from a jug, we weren't comfortable using that so asked if they could provide bottled water. They said we can purchase it from the bar, we said we weren't happy with that as all hotels provide bottled water so people don't get sick. They did give in and provided us with bottled water as needed.
To the owner, don't just welcome people who look like you and ignore others. You wrongly thought they were staying at the hotel but weren't.
