The Bastion Hotel is conveniently located in the old town, just a few minutes’ walk from the main points of interest. The staff offers a warm welcome and is very helpful—service is one of this establishment’s strong points. We stayed in the “Design” suite. This room was relatively small for a suite but well designed, with a sitting area and a good-sized bathroom. The fact that the suite still feels cramped suggests that the regular rooms must be very small. Light sleepers will find the room noisy—there is a club directly next door that can be loud. In my opinion, while this hotel is pleasant, it does not have the standing of a “Relais & Châteaux” property: there is no turndown service, and the food is very average. The rather poor breakfast discouraged us from trying the restaurant for dinner. That said, it’s still a hotel that offers good value for money, friendly service, and a very convenient location.
