The check in time of 2pm is not correct on hotels.com so when we arrived, there was only one member of staff and we were ignored for an hour. Check in is actually at 3pm but even still, our room wasn't ready. It was quickly turned around and we had a beautiful room with two floors and a large terrace. The pool is lovely but doesn't have enough loungers for the number of guests. The views are brilliant. The lady working on her own in the hotel, restaurant, and bar, was so very nice and clearly doing her best. I asked for an iron but it was never produced. The drinks are expensive and the measures are stingy. On check-out, we were charged too much tax and although we disputed this, the owner insisted we pay. But when we produced evidence, he conceded he'd taken too much money but said he couldn't process a refund and didn't hold more than 10EUR cash. He reluctantly emailed the card company to process a refund. Unlike his colleague, he was not very friendly. It felt as though they were trying to make money out of us unnecessarily. Had these things not happened, this place would have received a fiver start review because it is charming!

The location and views of the Villa Volpi are breath-taking. If you are looking for a quiet place to recharge this is the one. The pool was well maintained and the kids loved it. The room was very spacious and clean, but some upkeep is needed. The shower is wood panelled and the wood was all mouldy in the corners. Most light bulbs in the property were not working and would need changing. This was particularly annoying in the bathroom, where only 1 of 4 lights was operational. The big downfall of this property however is the host and the restaurant, and please bear in mind this is a 4-star hotel. The host is a bit of a hit and miss. One day they were chatty and friendly, the other day they barely noticed or greeted you. The waitresses in the restaurant were lovely and tried very hard, but an obvious lack of training made communication and service at times chaotic. What really spoiled our experience however was the restaurant. As the hotel is somewhat remotely located (20 minutes car drive to Lucca), you are likely to eat in the hotel. The menu did not change in 4 days, and as there is only a limited amount of choice, it very quickly becomes repetitive. The food was OK, but not 4-star worthy. I had the impression that many dishes were heated in the microwave and given how soggy the potatoes and pasta was, I seriously doubt they were freshly prepared on the day. In addition the prices are astronomical to the degree that it is comical for what plates you are served.

A wonderful scenery but not worth the money considering that it’s run by one man who acts as chef, receptionist, bartender and waiter meaning that it’s nearly impossible to track him down and get service. Genuinely sad as the location is a gem.

Hotel with no skilled kitchen personnel.

The idea of having a nice get away night in hills surrounding wine ranks was ruined by a poor kitchen and a terrible sleeping couch. The sleeping couch had no comfort. A top madras could have helped. There is only one kitchen up the hills, the one at the hotel. We noticed that the price for the main course was low, and the reason is that you are served half a meal, not a complete plate. Every one of the plates served was missing an important details. It was clear that the kitchen had no skilled personnel. The feeling of being isolated and reliant on the hotel made this stay a less positive experience 😔

If you want to pay too much for nothing but a view

4 star hotel is a huge exaggeration to put it mildly. The pool area and the view is what saves the place from being an utter tragedy. Everything, with regards to the service, restaurant, management, staffing was below acceptable. There is no staff, besides the gardener and poor ladies+ manager wife cleaning and none of them were trusted to help with catering for the guests- except when it came down looking for the one man band “running” the place/the manager. That is what all of us were doing when wanting service, food,drinks.. looking for the manager. Basically we payed waaay too much money to stay at a place which felt like “Fawlty Towers” (Pang i Bygget) with the character Manuel was running it. I would understand the pricing on food, drinks, coffee had it been an exclusive venue, there at least I get to see in the menu that a Coke is 8 Euros or a coffee 5 Euros. Hell, I would even understand it! I fail to do so in this case, I feel genuinely cheated.

A Villa é bem agradável e acolhedora, assemelhando-se a uma grande casa na Toscana, Fica nas montanhas no entorno de Lucca, que fica a alguns (poucos) quilômetros de distância. O quarto que nos foi alocado era confortável, um pouco mal iluminado à noite e fica logo sob o telhado. É possível que seja quente no verão, mas na primavera não estava. Apesar de ter poucos pavimentos, a propriedade tem elevador. O staff não fica muito visível, mas estava disponível nas horas certas (check in e check out). O café da manhã é bom, não tem muita variedade, mas é conveniente. O horário de início é que achei um pouco tarde (8:00hs se não me engano). A vista para as imediações é maravilhosa, sendo que podemos ver montanhas verdes e outras propriedades com olivais e vinhedos. Aliás a propriedade tem um pequeno olival. O preço da diária é um ponto forte, sendo mais em conta que alguns estabelecimentos semelhantes em Lucca, o que é um atrativo. A única coisa que nos deixou 'com o coração na mão' é a estradinha de acesso, que percorre a região. É asfaltada e perfeita em termos de manutenção, mas é muito estreita e em um dos lados, costuma ser um precipício. A cada vez que transitávamos por ela, rezávamos para não cruzarmos com outro veículo na direção contrária (o que ocorreu, felizmente, apenas uma vez).

Virkelig lækker perle i bjergene. Kan læse på tidligere opslag at der skulle være en sur vært. Dette kan vi ikke nikke genkendende til. Både vært og værtinde var enormt imødekommende og hjælpsomme. Vi ville gerne blive en ekstra nat men desværre var alt udsolgt. Poolområdet er virkelig lækkert og roligt selv om der også var børn. Vi spiste alle måltider her og alt var lækkert. Morgenmaden er ikke med det største udvalg men det var helt fint. Frokost og aftensmad var virkelig lækkert.

Fantastisk smukt - og originalt sted. Udsigten fra Infinity poolen er magisk - fra morgen til aften. Menukortet er ikke stort, men det går nok nogle dage. Det samme gælder morgenmaden... 🙂 Godt udgangspunkt for at tage på ture til nærliggende smukke byer som Lucca og Siena... Værtsparret er meget søde og hjælpsomme - kæmpe anbefaling herfra🇩🇰🙏 Vi kommer tilbage...
