We had a great stay at Manor House! It is a perfect convenient location if you’re catching the Scrabster ferry. The rooms were spacious and clean. The property is family run and they were wonderful people! We had a delicious dinner at the restaurant and they offered breakfast as well with both continental and a full Scottish hot breakfast options to choose from.

Very convenient to Scrabster Ferry to Orkney. Unfortunately the owner charged all our rooms to the credit card of the one making the reservations & wouldn’t reverse the charges causing a bit of accounting inconvenience. Otherwise staff is good-working hard. The place has character of an old manor. Clean-rooms dated & vary a bit in degree of size & comfort. Restaurant decent-not a wide range of menu choices. Entertainment at night but too late in evening for us after touring. Breakfast was average-no pastries. No extras such as meat, cheese & rolls. Nondescript generic brand cereals. Acceptable but th money issue turned us off.

The place is undergoing some major bedroom renovations and although our newly renovated bedroom was basic it was very clean with a new ensuite which had a very powerful shower. The hosts were extremely welcoming and helpful. The bar area is used by locals who were very friendly and helpful in suggesting places to visit. The breakfast is cooked to order from fresh quality produce. Great location, very easy and plentiful parking, good value for money

There are pros and cons here. A nice host and the room was cleaned well. It had a comfortable bed and quality furnishings. If you are only staying briefly to catch the ferry to Orkney, as I was, it is fine. The main con is the room had only a bed and chest of drawers. No closet or hooks at all. After a soggy day I had items hanging off of bedposts and door handles in addition to draped over the shower and sink. No desk or even chair, so it is completely unsuitable for anyone, like a business traveler, who wants to accomplish something in the room. No breakfast is included, but it is available for order, albeit with a narrow window of time to eat. There was not enough time to catch the early ferry to Orkney and have a relaxed breakfast, for example. It smelled good though! Finally, and I did not count this in my rating, the town of Thurso seemed tired of tourists for the year. I wonder if once Labour Day comes around, locals just want to get back to their lives. I can't necessarily blame them, but they were less than welcoming on several occasions.
