8/10 Very good

Value room in the centre

Good basic room well positioned in central London. Not the most comfortable or clean but for a single room in central London for less than £50 it met my expectations and good value.

The Gresham is inexpensive and the room is basic. On a summer morning it matters that there are no curtains. Nice staff.

Does the job for 1 night

It is a cheap affordable hotel which for the price you expect it not to be perfect however it is just borderline with this hotel. Very old and worn out room, tv not working, lamp didn't work, couldn't open window and was on lower floor and very warm room. Staff were friendly and polite but bit slow on checking in. For 1 night it does the job but wouldn't want to stay longer.

Avoid! Worst Hotel I've Ever Stayed In!

This was by far the worst hotel I have ever stayed in in London. The room felt more like a cell, it was incredibly warm, the bed mattress was thin, the toilet seat was broken, there was no sink in the room with the toilet so you couldnt wash your hands, the room was dirty, the staff were rude. By far the worst place ive ever stayed. Avoid avoid avoid

Missleading description on Hotels.com

The room was advertised wrong. The add stated room with bathroom. After clicking i got confirmation for shared bathroom room. Not OK!

Great location, much neglected

This was once a great boarding house in a prime location. But it has been neglected for years. I am sympathetic to businesses recovering after COVID, but there was no indication of any interest in improvement. The TVs were broken — mostly simple repairs— the WiFi didn’t work upstairs, the bathrooms were yucky, and the rugs needed replacement. Given all that, you would imagine they try to compensate, and one fellow was kind. But they wouldn’t even keep luggage, which every hotel I’ve stayed at does.

Cheap and great location but not the nicest hotel.

This is a no thrills hotel but it was cheap and in a great location. 24 hr check in was also great as I booked the hotel very last minute at 11:30pm and checking in was no issue. The shared bathrooms did the job but were not the nicest or cleanest bathrooms. The room itself was nothing luxurious in the slightest and left a lot to be desired but it did the job. I can’t complain for the price as the price does rightly reflect the product I feel.

Basic and economical

I booked for one night. The position is excellent. The staff were helpful and pleasant. The room was basic and a bit tired but fine for £50.

Overnighter in July

First of all this was cheap for a central London location. The shared bathroom and toilet wasn't a problem as that's what I booked. The TV didn't work as the aerial cable didn't have a plug on it. I didn't complain I wasn't there to watch TV on they said there was WiFi in some public areas but anywhere near me but I had a phone signal so email essentials were taken care of. The room was tired as was the whole building the mattress needs changing and it sags so much it effected the way I walked and there was a smell which I think was the carpet. But I say again it was cheap in central London in July. Also I had a plug socket to charge phones etc which is not guaranteed these days. The Staff were ok not rude but not good.

Does the job - no complaints

For circa £60 for one night for one person in the summer in the centre of London I honestly could not complain. Sure, the shared bathroom situation wasn't ideal, there's no AC or fan, no lift, stained floors, and I had someone's beard clippings on the hand soap in my room's personal sink BUT I had 3 mirrors in my room, various lights, tv, my bed was clean and well made, I got a fresh towel, men at reception were nice, and I had a personal sink which made up a bit for the shared bathroom. For price and location I'd stay here again for a night if I needed to - as a previous hostel traveller, there really wasn't anything unexpected for me to complain about. If you're staying here in the summer I'd recommend bringing a plug with multiple usb ports and bringing a portable usb fan to help with heat...and a long phone charger cord as the sole plug socket was far from my bed.

10/10 Exceptional

basic standard, centrally located

My room in this centrally located hotel was clean and the check-in was easily done. I regularly travel to London and I've previously stayed in this hotel before. I recommend this to solo short term travellers who just need a basic accommodation within the city's centre. For just a night I don't need any luxury, shared bathroom is ok and clean towels are always provided.

The property is outdated, needs renovation and upgrades to modern facilities. The carpet looks so old and dirty Windows and windows seals were so dusty and dirty, rooms were so stuffy. The property needs total upgrading.

We stayed here 1 night as going to see a show. Hotel is very basic and needs a refurbishment. Beds not very comfortable. Bed linen and towels were clean. hotel was ok for 1 night however I would not stay more than that. Location is great if you are going to a show, about 5 min walk to nearest tube station (Tottenham court road).

We checked in and checked out 2 hours later after we found a much better hotel. The total money was forefeit but it was good for ourselves. The hotel is not liveable and it is simply horrible plus terrible. We should ask the homeless people to live inside for two nights instead of in the cold streets.

Fine for a Budget Break

Well it has to be said, much of the hotel needs a refurbishment. The reception area is fine as it is, but the guest rooms and bathrooms need updating. As it was a last-minute booking, I opted for a single room without bathroom so had to use the separate bathroom nextdoor. The room itself was adequate and the hotel in general very quiet. The most noise came from my very creaky bed frame, which combined with a slanting mattress, disturbed my sleep somewhat. As for the bathrooms, laminate flooring in a shower isn't the best idea, and the wood is on its way out. But the water for the shower was lovely and hot. Overall, for a London break on a budget, the Gresham does the job. But it does need a touch-up.
