Upon arriving at Azur, I was informed that there was a water leak in the room I had been assigned and that my stay would therefore have to be cancelled. I understood that unexpected maintenance issues can happen, so I accepted the situation without complaint.
Azur then offered to arrange alternative accommodation for me, and I agreed. As an apology, they gave me a bottle of wine worth approximately NZD 50.
I then drove myself to Coronet Ridge, the alternative accommodation arranged by Azur.
Azur charged my credit card the full original booking amount of NZD 2,371 and told me that the replacement accommodation would be provided at no additional cost and was of an equivalent standard. I trusted their explanation and went along with the arrangement.
However, upon arriving at Coronet Ridge, I discovered that the same accommodation was available on booking platforms that day for approximately NZD 1,700–1,900.
Had I known this, I would have simply booked the accommodation myself rather than paying Azur NZD 2,371.
I also had to drive to the replacement property myself, and apart from the bottle of wine, no additional compensation or benefits were provided.
My disappointment is not about the unexpected water leak, which I completely understand. It is about being charged the full original amount for accommodation that appeared to be significantly less expensive, without any refund of the difference or meaningful compensation for the inconvenience.
