The gardens and flowers were very beautiful and added luxury the building is also were charming and adds to the whole country escape feel . I think this hotel has Hotel.com and Booking specific rooms in the hotel. The grounds are grand and passing areas like the spa elevates the look of an otherwise outdated and tired hotel past it's best. My room was on the same side of a hallway that hosted some luxury looking rooms on the right vs dorm room doors on the left (I was in the rooms on the left). The room was clean although it had a few flags - prompts on the bedside to make a cup of tea, but no kettle? Toiletries opened and potentially used in the bathroom. "Filtered water" in the room which had it's seal broken and the water tasted a bit rank. The buffet breakfast looks the part but the coffee was shocking and a lot of the food tasted stale, old and far from quality. I used the sauna which was lovely and the pool areas looked relaxing. For some reason you have to give your robe back at reception? At peak departure times this became pretty messy and seems quite unhygienic for FOH staff to do. Hey, its the best I could find in the area. I'd probably go back if I had to but I hope the hotels owners see this and put some of that spa money to where it could elevate the entire venue to match it's exterior charm. I'd have raised these in person but even using the express checkout was hassle enough.

Beautiful stay

The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The facilities were outstanding, the food exceptional, and our stay was beautiful I would definitely recommend this and stay again soon. The only negative I could even think to mention was it was extremely hot throughout, often too much and this was even without heating on

Stopped away for work All the staff were very helpful and friendly Facilities are amazing Food was incredible The only downside was that the bed was comfortable because it wasn’t a true double bed but two singles pushed together and the shower fell off its holder if you turned the pressure up too high. The property really needs some maintenance to it. Very dated all round. Champneys used to hold a high standard name as a spa hotel but over the years it’s really lost its touch. Was disappointed with the cleanliness of the spa facilities. Was in the spa for 2ish hours and not a single member of staff cleaning anything. Mainly the floors which were full of grit/hair/dirt. Edging of pool areas have algae. Really just needs a deep clean. We didn’t stay for dinner however we had breakfast which was underwhelming. We were on the last sitting of 9.15am but nothing was getting topped up despite asking. Breads were out/butter was out/yogurts out/fruit bowls out or on last scraps. The coffee was super weak - not even black it was the colour of tea. I had to ask one of the staff if this was on its last leg as it just didn’t look right. Luckily a kind server came and gave me a fresh pot of strong coffee which I’m incredibly grateful for. Whilst no real complaints of staff, I didn’t find them as welcoming as you would in a spa hotel.

Mediocre spa hotel. Very over priced.

Very unwelcoming greeting on reception. Mis informed about food service times so had to go out for food as they had closed both the cafe and restaurant earlier than we were told they would. Highly recommend the Akeman in Tring for warm and welcoming staff, professional and serving delicious food. The bathroom in the hotel room was incredibly tired, the bath panel had a huge gaping hole as did the bottom of the bathroom door. There are no over head lights in the bedroom, just very very dim sidelights. The spa pool had a lot of limescale. The bed was very large and comfy. If you can get a voucher then maybe give it a go. Personally I wouldn’t spend full price on it again. Very expensive for what we actually got.

The property was excellent and the facilities, I just didn’t appreciate the housekeeping knocking on my on my door at 10.30am about me checking out. I also had very nice treatments outside on the terrace but then it was ruined by the hotel calling me 3 times and telling me that I had left the hotel and I need to come back and pay the bill I spoke to a manager and was he was very apologetic over the situation and we were complimented a free bottle of wine After than that the whole experience was lovely.

"When you visit some hotels, you may feel like a number and not a person. This was my first visit, and I had no expectations. I was pleasantly surprised; first off, the smell of the place is just amazing! The location and grounds were stunning. More importantly, I was treated like part of the family—the staff was amazing and welcoming. If you're a single person traveling, it can feel quite daunting, but you actually felt like you were part of the family and so well looked after. The spa is first class; although I was working, so I didn't have time for many treatments, apart from hair, which was so reasonably priced.
