Here's what made me decide to sleep in my car instead of the gross hotel room I already paid for:
-There was no way to lock the room door from the inside. None.
-The room was very old and it was obvious: Poorly repaired large hole in the wall, quite stinky, tons of stains on the patio chair used as an office chair, rust and mineral build up all around the shower and tub, locks broken off door, slanted and stained floor... I could go on.
-The building itself is old, smelly and not well maintained
-There is a loud bar next door that was pouring out onto the street and into the parking lot of the hotel
-In just the 10 minutes I was in the room trying to decide if I would let my family even see the room, there were drunk people wandering around the hallway yelling, arguing, and bringing friends over.
There is no way I would let my family stay here. I was happy to check out, sleep in our car and lose money if it meant I didn't have to sleep there. So that's what we did; slept in our car after we just drove 11 hours to get to Whitehorse. Next time, we'll just skip Whitehorse all together.
