I was sorely disappointed by this hotel. It felt more like a funeral home that a "charming, historical inn," That was due in no small part to the horrible LED lighting everywhere which cast a garishiness to everything. The wall to wall carpet in the room was very depressing. I was extremely displeased that there were no bathrobes [as promised]. The front desk couldn't even find any. The sink faucet was broken and the handle fell off repeatedly. There were 2 lightbulbs that were also out in the library. The products were fine but skimpy and not of the promised quality. The breakfast was good, though. But again.... that lighting made the room almost intolerably depressing.
This is a very friendly place we loved our overall experience. You can walk a have a wonderful diner. Breakfast was delishious. Very cool place.
Had a very pleasant weekend stay despite rainy weather. Able to walk to Old Salem village and restaurant. Staff was very accommodating. Enjoyed our visit.
The area was good and the building was cool but the room was not like pictured on site, mustard yellow painted walls, carpeting and uncomfortable cheap mattresses.
We chose this place for its proximity to Old Salem Village and its charm, and we were not disappointed on either count. Adults and kid all were wowed by our spacious, well-decorated room, we liked the free happy hour (even though the wine was terrible), and we loved that there was a hotel cat. Our one quibble, however, is a major one: On a cool spring day, the room was freezing! There was a note from the management about the place's climate control--basically, there's nothing they can do--but it was so bad I called the front desk anyway. They couldn't have been nicer; they offered a space heater (which would have done little in that cavernous room) or to move us. I declined both offers, figuring that with the central system one room would be as bad as the next. At breakfast the next day, however--the breakfast was good!--I met a woman who said her room had been too hot. If the place has known hot and cold spots, perhaps the management could inquire about preferences; freezing under our blankets really put a damper on our enjoyment of the place.
