The first room we were given smelled strongly of cigarette smoke, especially in the bathroom, which was unpleasant. I don’t understand how this wasn’t noticed or addressed before assigning the room to another guest. There were renovations taking place during my stay, and since I had to work from the hotel, the constant drilling noise made it very difficult to concentrate. I tried moving to the breakfast area after breakfast hours to work, but was immediately told it was forbidden to sit there, which was confusing since the tables were still in place. Unfortunately, there was no alternative quiet or dedicated workspace available. The lobby area was even louder, with people checking in and out and staff handling breakfast equipment. On a positive note, the breakfast was good, with a decent variety including gluten-free and lactose-free options. Housekeeping was also very good.

We spent a week traveling Switzerland. Pros are that it has air conditioning and the facilities are mostly up to date so stay was decent: the hotel was a good distance with ready public transport to the old city. the cons are that you apparently have to reserve parking in advance (not available on the hotels website so please call) if not you cannot park in their garage; there was parking about 5 min car ride. Also the staff member that was supporting us was visibly drinking beers during check in hours.

Unfortunately, my experience at B&B HOTEL Konstanz was very disappointing. One of the biggest problems was the obvious lack of basic resources. There did not seem to be enough towels available, and the overall organization gave the impression that the hotel was struggling to keep up with even basic operational requirements. The gentleman at reception appeared completely overwhelmed and, in my experience, was not able to deal with the situation in a professional or effective manner. Communication and handling of issues were frustrating and left a very poor impression. The breakfast staff deserves a completely different assessment. The female staff member was friendly, hardworking and clearly doing her best. Unfortunately, she seemed to be fighting a losing battle alone because there simply did not appear to be enough resources or support. During breakfast, basic things were repeatedly missing, including enough glasses, refill of the buffet is slow, as you can expect if one is working alone when the hotel in nearly at capacity. Overall, the impression was that the problems are not primarily with individual employees, but with the way the hotel is being managed and organized. When staff are clearly trying their best but lack the necessary resources and support, the responsibility ultimately lies with management.
