Lovely historic hotel

We enjoyed our stay at this historic hotel. We were upgraded to a suite which was nice. The breakfast and restaurant were good and staff were keen to help. If I had a criticism it is that service can at times be slow despite there being lots of staff around.

Beautiful property snd rooms are very spacious and comfortable. It has all the modern amenities while retaining the old school charm of such an old building. We loved the wood burning fire place in the room as well. Breakfast was really good and staff at breakfast place was very friendly and courteous and service was top notch. Afternoon high tea was also amazing. Property has a beautiful courtyard and several charming cottages and suites. Highly recommend staying here for Ooty visit

Heritage at its best in Ooty

During our stay at the Savoy in Ooty, we were endlessly impressed with the level of service by all staff from the gardeners to the managers who were attentive and nothing was ever too much trouble. The hotel is immaculate with rooms that reflect the heritage of the property while providing clean, well maintained and modern aspects that you want when travelling. The gardens are stunning and peaceful. The dining room provides superb food at reasonable prices. When Executive Chef, Emon Mukherjee, realised I wanted something simple, he made me the most perfect prawn and vegetable main course. The staff were brilliantly managed, with nothing being too much of a problem and with staff that remembered our room number, even when we couldn't! A special mention to Santosh, who not only remembered our room number but also what we ordered each time. When a sudden problem occurred with our original room, the staff and management couldn't have been quicker or more helpful in rectifying the situation efficiently and effectively. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel and its exemplary staff.

Fuimos un grupo de 9 adultos, una niña y un bebe. Después se nos sumó una pareja con su beba. Tiene un estilo colonial y los cuartos lo mantienen bastante bien, todo el entorno aún te proyecta a aquellos tiempos de la colonia y la explotación del té; pero las habitaciones están acondicionadas a los usos de hoy en día; en todos los cuartos que se nos asignaron hay hogar a leña, y de todos los mejores son los del frente (de frente a la recepción hacia la izquierda). El personal es muy atento y dispuesto, y la comida variada y vegetariana (no recuerdo haber visto en el menú alguna preparación con algún tipo de carne) Verifíquenlo si les interesa, pero estando en India a las personas que venían con nosotros y comían carne, no les dio mucha gana. Los precios para cena y almuerzo (desayuno estaba incluido) son un poco elevados para mi gusto. En general lo recomiendo y volvería a ir, demás está que fue nuestra experiencia. Con mis mejores deseos. G

ooty taj retreat

The taj is a very old traditional hotel with nice rooms with log fires if you get cold. In this covid period there is limited food but then the breakfast must improve as to not have proper coffee in a 5 star is not acceptable. the quality of breakfast does not meet 5star. The staff are very good but a bit slow sometimes for serving drinks and food.

Memorable stay!

My wife and I had a wonderful stay at the Savoy run by the Taj. The service was excellent from all staff, and the food really delicious. The cool weather made our sojourn there all the more memorable, especially the time spent before the fireplace in the room.

Everything is fine except for the fact that the hotel charges the guest the amount in indian rupees for the agreed amount, then gives a lower conversion value (example the usd to inr is $71 and the hotel’s rate is $67). Guests are unknowingly paying 5% more. There is no option on the credit card machine to change the transaction currency. It took 3 trips to the reception, meeting withe the general nanager snd 4 hrs to resolve the issue. This is a business model that these hotels are using to cheat unkowing customers.

Lovely hotel in Ooty. Hotel has been recently refurbished and the room was very nice. Lovely furnishings, comfy bed, spacious. Food was excellent and service was very attentive and friendly. I would definitely stay there again.

Excellent place

Excellent place, very courteous and friendly team - be it Front office or F&B or Guest Services. Appears to be slightly under-staffed and hence the team appears to be over-stressed but still maintain a smiling face. Post initial hiccups and some communication issues, generally the service was fabulous led by Mr. Ansari and Mr. Paul in Front office, Sebastien in Housekeeping and Manoj, Arun, Santosh and Kalidass in F&B.

old world charm- but condition is bad

For the price- a whopping $150 a night- one would expect pretty good conditions. Indian luxury hotels have ridiculous service charges (GST). The rooms are old and tired, but spacious - but not worth the price for India. Couldn't get me a working iron after 3 tries and waiting nearly 90 minutes- made for a bad start of my morning. The one thing they have going for them is service - polite and respectful. The open air lounging area is nice. drinks are so-so. The breakfast buffet is fantastic.

Old world charm !

Taj Savoy is an old British property with 19th century style lawns and rooms yet well maintained by the management and staff. Special mention of Mr Ansari and Ms Sharmila who were excellent with their guest services. Had a good time exploring Ooty with this place as our stay base.

Excellant service and staff. This even beats JW Marriott service experience. Just too good. All staff members are so well trained and nice that you feel like going back there just for that. Excellent location, good property and nice food, specially breakfast buffet.

Classic hotel with excellent service

Colonial style building in beautiful grounds. Older rooms but the atmosphere was great. Food and bar excellent with good service. Welcome drink much appreciated. Ooty has not kept as much of the old glamour as one might expect, but this hotel has. Expensive by local standards but worth it for a special night on the trip.

Nice environment, closed to many facilities.

Overall the services are good, especially from well trained staff. The WiFi speed is less than desired. For international hotel, this need to be improved.
