Warning to all travellers: if you stay in the traditional building, there is a gap at the top of the door frame to the outside.
**This issue is not advertised anywhere.
This gap in the door made us nervous about bugs and worried about potential break-in or theft - especially as the safe wasn't working either.
When I raised this concern with the front desk, I was told this is "what you get when you book the traditional building" and that if I wanted a door that *actually closed*, I'd need to pay to upgrade my room.
I find that ridiculous. I understand cosmetic issues (i.e. peeling paint) being part of a "traditional" room, but having a door that fully closes and a working safe are fundamental issues.
I was told my options were to stick with the current room, pay to upgrade (for a room with a working door), or I could go to a new hotel (and pay a cancellation fee). And i was told I had to make a decision that morning.
We were staying for 10 days so paying for an upgrade was another ~$600 and going to a new hotel last minute for that long would have costed even more.
I booked this trip months in advance and would not have booked this room at all if these issues were advertised.
For what its worth, the staff were kind and the rest of the hotel was fine. Its clear that this is an ownership policy issue.
But this issue really ruined our birthday trip and the lack of fully closing doors SHOULD be clearly articulated (if they won't fix it).
