First ryokan, did not disappoint!

I'd never stayed in a ryokan before, but have always heard what it was like. I can confidently say, after being in this one, that ryokans are an exceptional place to relax. The traditional rooms are spacious, has a great views, and sleeping in a futon on tatami is a classic for a reason! The amenities are very nice too, with two whole building's worth of stuff! A public bath, karaoke, arcade, bowling, an izakaya, etc. Probably the only thing I would like is wifi in the room (it's only otherwise found in the lobby). But other than that, a wonderful experience I am glad to have had!

下関から角島大橋と元乃隅神社を経由して長門湯本での一泊にこちらのホテルを利用しました。率直に言って、大規模で古いという意味では、よくも悪くも「昭和」を生きそして生き延びたホテルと言えそうです。しかし、スタッフの方々のご努力でしょうか、昭和のホテルのネガティブな面をポジティブに変えようとしてきた結果が随所に見られ気持ちのよい思いがしました。その意味で、いいホテルであり、また泊まってみたいホテルでもあります。随所にハングルの案内があることから、韓国からのインバウンドのお客さんか多いホテルなのでしょう。私が泊まった時も約40名の韓国人団体客が来ていたようです。ホテル側の配慮でしょうか、動線や食事時間など彼らが一般日本人客と交わることはほとんどありませんでした。それでも廊下やロビーですれ違った韓国人の若いグループや家族連れはロビーで静かに本を読んだり、お兄さんが温泉で弟さんの面倒をみていたりなど良識ある人たちで、日本の温泉ホテル文化を楽しんでいるようでほほえましく思えました。日本人の酔っ払い客より全然よいと思います。良識あるインバウンドの人たちがくるホテルは、私たち日本人と望ましい交わりを持てる機会をホテル側が創出できるのであれば、今後有望な経営資源になるのではないかとも感じました。施設について残念な点は、大浴場の打たせ湯が壊れていて使えなかったことです。早めの改修が待たれます。食事は夕食も朝食も美味しくて、給仕のタイミングや説明も適切だと感じました。特にセルフ式の朝食は、添付した写真にあるように品数豊富であり、フグの雑炊などもあり、美味しくて食べ過ぎてしまうほどでした。オススメです。朝、温泉に入っている時にサウナで客と思われる日本の老人が倒れました。どうも酒を朝から酒を飲んでいたようです。すぐに女性スタッフが駆けつけてきましたが、周囲にいた私を含む裸の者は事情がわからず、女性が何の断りもなく浴場に服を着たまま走って入ってきたことに驚きました。救命救急ですからやむを得ないことは理解しますが、しばらくしてその老人は意識が戻ったようで最悪の事態は避けられましたが、その時点でホテル側は不安になりながら裸のまま入浴を続ける私たちに何らかの配慮ある言葉がけや説明が必要なのではないでしょうか。事情も飲み込めず、このことが裸の自分たちに、感染など何か悪い健康上の影響を引き起こすことはないのか、ちょっと不安になりました。女性スタッフに引き続き高齢の男性スタッフも入ってきましたが、なぜか、なかなか救急隊員は到着せず、こんな救急対応では、最悪の状態だったら、助かる生命も助からないなと思わせてしまうようなホテル側の対応でした。その意味でも、緊急時を脱した段階で、私たち周囲に対する何らかの説明責任がホテル側にあるのではないでしょうか。努力しているホテルとの印象でいただけに、ちょっと残念な気がしました。

車で行きました。駐車場は広いですし近くにあるのでそこは便利。部屋は使用感はありますが掃除は行き届いているので快適に滞在出来ました。ただ部屋にｗｉｆｉが届かずロビー付近だけなのは残念。スタッフは親切で気持ちの良い旅が出来ました。

ロビーの生け花、習字の掲示、美味しい料理も気配りいただいて有り難かったです。 新鮮なイカのお刺身や天ぷらは、港の近くの現地いかないと頂けないものであり、美味しいものをいただいて幸せでした。 今回は、参加できませんでしたがカラオケ、ボーリングもおすすめです。また、次回は、久しぶりにカラオケも楽しみたいと思います。 1人旅でも、安心して宿泊をさせて頂き、ありがとうございました。
