Our stay had its ups and downs. The initial receptionist was unfriendly, unhelpful and disrespectful. We got there at 12:30 so she said we couldn't check in until 2. She didn't ask who we were nor checked if our room might have been ready. We thought maybe that was the policy which would be fine, but an Italian guest came 10 minutes later and she checked him in right away. She said to leave our luggage in an unsecured place with no tags. We asked her to call a taxi to go to Ostia Antica. They told her it would come in half an hour. Since we hesitated to decide if to get it, she proceeded to make fun of us with the person on the phone.
We called our own taxi and it came in 10 minutes. However all taxi rides were an exorbitant 42eu for 10 minute rides.
We checked in later with a nice young man who told us that everything in the mini bar was included.
The room was ok, clean, decent size, but the thermostat was not working so it was very hot. We had to open the window multiple times during the night. The shower was very slippery. We couldn't use the large balcony overlooking the sea. There was a terrible wind and later it rained. There were also smokers in the neighboring balconies.
The town was pretty dead at this time of year, which made the taxis expensive and rare and only one restaurant was open close by. Perhaps the summer is better.
The breakfast was very good.
Overall we would skip staying in Ostia and take the metro from Rome to Ostia Antica like everyone else.
