Great value for price
Susana, the owner, will do her best to assist you in any way, serving a nice breakfast with homemade, fresh bread every morning and with eggs cooked especially for you - tea and all possible different coffee too. Clean and spacious rooms with good beds; would highly recommend 👍

Our host Lucia and her Senegalese friend were extremely friendly and helpful, and they made our stay in Sal great. The first night we slept in a shared dorm which was a bit cramped and didn't have enough electric outlets to comfortably charge devices. It was also hard for everyone to keep the shared bathroom floors clean from sand and dirt with only mops as the showers frequently splashed lots of water. The second night we got a smaller room that we shared with two other people and that night was a lot more comfortable. The top floor shared spaces and kitchen were superb. The breakfast was great! Muito obrigado to both of you! :)

I booked a mixed shared room, paid a bit of a higher price to stay in rooms that in the photos show having 4 or 6 beds. When I got there was put in a small room crammed with bunk beds, it is now a 10 people room, plus and adjacent room with 4 more beds, all sharing just 1 toilet-shower. When I asked about why the booking photo looks so different, was told that they couldn’t do anything, and left me no option just to stay there. Mattress was comfy but too many people in the room made it impossible to sleep properly. The kitchen and breakfast are good, there is a little terrace too, the staff is very nice. The issue is the crowded room, little or no storage space, and the toilets of course should have more cleaning due to the amount of people and usage. It’s a pity that they have crowded the rooms like that as it ruins a bit the experience and it feels like they just want to make money and forgot about hospitality, it also felt deceiving that they don’t put a proper photo of how the room actually is.

I enjoyed my stay at this hostel. The hostel is in walking distance to the main street and beaches in Santa Maria. When I arrived I was taking good care of by the lady who works there, Lucia. It was clean sheets on the bed and a towel. There are smal lockers to put you're valuables. The hostel is nearby many local resteurants with great food, to a nice price. The hostel has a seperate kitchen and dining area on the top floor, with a balcony. There is also free wifi. I loved my stay at this hostel, and gives you a great opportunity to get new friends. I was travelling alone and I always felt safe. You can also order breakfast everday, with freshed baked bread. I really liked the people who worked there, even when they from time to time was a bit stressed, they provided super service. I can really recommand this hostel.

Nice hostel.
This is a newer hostel . Remark it is a hostel and not a hotel, but it is a nice hostel . There were a large kitchen at the top floor with roof top terrace, new common fridge/ freezee. The host were friendly and the coffee great and the location in the outer side of town were authentic and then only 400 meters from the main street. For direction ask for police station and then head 1 block east then it is right up a side street on a corner . The average age of the guest my week I guess were mid 30, so no noise and drunk teens. This is africa and the population are friendly and you must know there is alot going on on the streets at night, children playing, adults lostening to loud music etc but I had no problem sleeping at all. Common showers and toilets, two on each floor

Where to begin… I show up around 1800 and am told they overbooked the hostel 150% and me and three other guests don’t have beds. After them reshuffling people around for over an hour and a half, they “find” me a bed. Turns out I am sharing a double bed with a random dude. This was the only option they could provide me. But they promised I would get a bed the next night. So I sucked it up and slept next to this strange man.
The next day rolls around, I go to the reception to ask for my new bed. Guess what? No beds available still. They want me to share the bed again.
After throwing a fit, they “find” me a new place 100m away. I don’t even think this is part of the hostel, just the worker’s personal house.
What is wrong with this place? How does it have 4.6 stars on google???? Cheapest place in Santa Maria, but not worth it. Better off getting a blanket and sleeping on the beach.

Highly recommended
stayed two weeks in Xamedu hostel and would gladly come back.
Welcoming management and staff really do all they can to ensure guests are enjoying their stay. Really sweet people.
The climate on the island is pleasant at night so no need for air condition.
The internet works upstairs, which is the common areas. So you can't help but get to know everybody staying there. There's room for about 30 ppl. Cozy kitchen, fridge, good coffee machine. Two balconies. A living room.
And it's very clean.
Also quiet, it's central but not located in a main street or by any disco or bar.
Restaurants, the beach, grocery stores, everything in short distance.
I am thankful for the experience and recommend xamedu to anyone.
