First off, this is NOT a hotel. As I was informed upon my arrival, it is a gite, which is a self-service apartment. (I’d never heard this term before, but it seems to be a common type of accomodation in rural France.) There is no front desk, so you have to call the owner upon your arrival to get the key. You’re also expected to bring your own sheets and towels, and if you don’t there’s a €30 surcharge to use theirs, which are clean but old and stiff. There’s no restaurant, either, though the village has a few places to eat. Tennis court? Rooftop terrace? Nope, but there’s a sort of outdoor seating area in the airshaft. If the description were correct, none of that would be a problem, but it’s quite different to what is stated here. (There’s no parking on site, either, but you can park in the village at no charge, then walk to the apartment.) On the plus side, it’s a clean, quiet, and atmospheric 200-year-old house, and it gives you a great French village experience. No air conditioning, of course, or even a fan, but the weather was pleasant for my stay. The owner is friendly, which was good because I wasn’t at my best after a long drive ended with so many surprises at Maison Anila. I wish other reviewers had offered real information, so I’m doing so here to help those looking for accommodation in Barjac. This place may be exactly what you want, but know going in that the description on Hotels.com is not accurate.

Short break 3 & 4 nights.
Self contained accommodation in centre of town. Friends had four differing apartments and all were good. The host Pierre was very pleasant and accommodating.
