I was a little hesitant when I booked this room but took a chance. I appreciated that they did not price gouge like most of the other area hotels on an OU "special" weekend. No frills but it met our needs. Super close to campus. Very clean, polite and attentive staff. It is not fancy. The beds were very firm which I liked. If you're just looking for a place to sleep, it fits the bill. I would not be opposed to staying again. We were grateful to find this room on Mom's Weekend!

Nothing fancy but perfectly adequate as a place to stop for the night in the middle of a long drive. The bed was comfortable, the heat and plumbing worked. I don't need fancy decor, and didn't even take my computer out so can't speak of the desk and chair. The money I saved more than covered a nice breakfast at a restaurant down the street.

This is a small roadside motel. The current owners have put a lot of effort into upgrading the facility. Rooms were clean and quiet. Great place to get a good nights rest. Staff was courteous and friendly. Room had a fridge and microwave. No frills or pool, exercise, food offerings. Good deal for the price.

Not a bad place to stay. What you would expect from a 65 dollar a night room. Relatively clean. Looks like they have done some recent painting. Staff is very nice. I would stay here again.

Place is definitely worn. Exterior looks just plain bad. Interior needs updating but was nice and clean. Would recommend for a quick night stay.

It fits the need. We had to stay overnight in Athens, OH after our visit to Ohio U and needed a place to sleep, so it was fine.

Great place for the price. Bed was comfy. A new coat of paint would go a long way. The shower head is not made for tall people. All in all, I’d stay there again. It was nice a close to OU which was the reason for our visit. Super quiet. The road construction on the front street was a bummer. Bottom line is that we got to see our daughter during parents week and didn’t have to go bankrupt to do so, though the price was inflated due to the occasion.

Not the cleanest place I’ve been to, has a lot of drug activity going on! But that’s my opinion no proof, we are smokers so was glad they had smoking rooms, the young lady at the front desk was very kind.

The room was perfectly fine for one night but we did not make it one night as the environment became unsafe after dark.

Big dirt bike race in town —The John Penton GNCC— had every hotel in town full. The Highlander was a simple, spartan, elegant solution. Would do it again. Considering the cost, 4.5 of 5 stars! 90 of 100! Thanks

The motel was clean and the beds were SUPER comfortable! The woman who checked us in (I was in Athens with my 16 yr old daughter visiting a friend) was very friendly! The door to the room only had a doorknob lock and it wasn't super sturdy. The chain lock was broken. And the door had a decent-sized gap between it and the door frame in some places. That all being said, I still felt safe enough and the rooms on the opposite end of the motel were being worked on and upgraded while we were there. I would definitely still recommend this motel! VERY good for the price!

The Highlander has had some upgrades since my previous visit. The only negative was that the bed was VERY HIGH.
There was an American high jumper named Dick Forsbury. I practically had to do the Fosbury Flop to get into the bed. Not everyone is tall, so this is an issue that should be resolved.

I have stayed here dozens of times. It's a great motel if you're on a budget. There are certainly cheaper motels in Athens, but those scare me. The Highlander is in a nice spot in Athens near a bike path and between a coffee shop and a popular hotdog stand. It's a long walk to "downtown" Athens but doable if. This is not the Ritz. You are getting what you pay for. The floors may be squishy at spots, but they are clean floors. Beds are nice. The water pressure from the showers is actually impressive--so that's a plus. This is a popular motel with construction contractors doing work somewhere near Athens. I almost always see a few construction trucks and vans every time I stay here. This place is family owned and they seem to take pride in their work with limited means. If you want to stay in Athens for cheap, stay here.

Upon arrival, we decided not to stay.
The exterior of the property was concerning enough to forgo entrance all together. I was extremely disappointed considering Hotels.com reviews seemed positive however, the later Google search told a different, more accurate, story. Overall, very displeased and inconvenienced given I had already paid for the stay. Please ensure the reviews are an accurate reflection of the quality of these locations!
