2. Lech and Maria Kachinsky Park

Pleasant beach-side park

Lech Kaczyński, the former Polish President, and his wife Maria are honored throughout Batumi with a statue, a street named after them, and this beach-side park. They were killed in a plane crash in 2010. The park is perfect for a leisurely promenade and it’s full of sculptures to snap.

Probably the most unusual sculpture, which needs to be seen to be believed, is the appropriately named “Flip-flops on eggs.” The kids will love it alongside the several play areas dotted around the park. Grown-ups will appreciate the park’s cafes for a Georgian-style strong dose of caffeine.

The local Qvevri wine is made here in the old-fashioned style: in large clay jars which are sealed and buried in the ground for 6 months to mature.

Guests can taste the unique wine in the underground wine cellar, an atmospheric room filled with wooden benches and barrels. Once you have sampled the wine, head to the hotel’s seventh-floor restaurant for Georgian food and beautiful views of the old town.

Swimming season starts in May and can last well into October and the water temperature doesn’t get below 70°F (21°C).

The pebble beach is clean, well maintained, and lined with bars and restaurants. Sports equipment can be hired if you fancy a paddleboard. A small waterpark with colorful slides will keep the kids entertained whilst romantics will want to catch the sunset over the Black Sea.
