I was looking for a cheap place to stay in Berkeley that was convenient to the bus and Bart lines, and the Marina Inn was perfect. 51b stops right outside to go to downtown Berkeley, plus it is just a short walk down for the marina or the North Berkeley Bart station. Very clean and comfortable room, with hard wood floors and big screen tv. I was very happy with my choice.
Highly recommend. Staff is so good & co-operative. It's a very well maintained property & honor our veterans with little pieces of history (portraits, photos etc.) all throughout the proporty. The room was clean and fresh. The bed linens were crisp and clean. The room was equipped with a coffee maker, microwave, refrigerator, iron, flat screen tv, and hair dryer. Complimentary bottled water, coffee, fruit and pastries are provided in the main office in the morning. This hotel is exactly what we were looking for when we were visiting our daughter nearby. The room was a little small, but everything else about it was great - location, breakfast, staff, and cleanliness! We will definitely look to stay here for future visits!
My stay was fantastic. The only negative thing I experienced was that they removed the US flag from its place of honor at the peak of their hotel in order to fly a pride flag in its place. As a veteran whos friends gave their lives for the US and whos coffins were draped with that flag, this was intolerable. There were plenty other places they could and did fly the pride flag. It should never fly in lieu of the Stars and Stripes.

Pleased with this hotel. Very clean, but thin ceilings, floors and walls. I heard all walking above me and i could hear the water from toilets flushing and showers. I could clearly hear everyone coming out of the elevator. Needed earplugs to sleep.
We stayed with our preteen and little guy and it was wonderful. Area felt pretty safe. We had a bay view room and got to watch the lighthouse at Alcatraz at night. Real close to dining, Ghirardelli Square, Fisherman's Wharf and just a couple blocks from the Big Bus station. Breakfasts were good and definitely saved money not paying for that every day! They are strict about the breakfast cutoff.
Castle Inn was safe, clean and economical. Our only complaint was a wet towel was left on the back of the bathroom door. Other than that the room was very clean, it was safe and had free parking.
