We had the most lovely stay at Antico Borgo Etneo. Conveniently located 5 minutes from the train station, the property is gorgeous, our room was very clean and relatively cool considering we were in the middle of a heat wave. Great hospitality and a scrumptious breakfast (we’ll be thinking about that lemon chiffon cake for ages). We would stay again the next time in Calatabiano. Grazie a tutti!

Super staff!

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. It felt like we were staying as a guest at someones home. The best part of this stay was the staff. Franchesca was a true pleasure. She made sure our stay was perfect and was always working day and night to make sure everyone was happy. Her mother Giusy was wonderful as well. She ran the breakfast in the mornings and helped out with guests as well. Was a great experience from staying at a regular hotel. I would definitely stay here again.

Such a wonderful, charming and rustique property. The staff were so warm and welcoming and the views of Etna, spectacular! The delicious breakfast was home made using the fruits and honey produced on the property, and Francesca was so helpful and could always be contacted via whatsapp as staff are only available for a few hours in the morning and evening, so you are free to ventrure around the land, or chill out on the roof terrace as if its your own home. There are approx 7 cats who live at the property are very well looked after. The rooms was perfect, clean with a mini fridge and a good shower with communal terrace. The bed is a little hard, but you may like that! The small village of Calatabiano is authentically Sicilian with little to no English speakers, so if youre looking for a quiet and peaceful vacation, this is the place for you! I would advise hiring a car (or maybe the property can hire out bikes) as the old train station is not reliable. Taxis to Taorimina and Giardini Naxos are around €30 each way. The train to Catania, only €5 but plan your timings using the trenitalia website, as you cannot buy tickets at Calatabiano. Thank you for hosting us, we would come back in a heartbeat!

Peaceful countryside getaway with great views

Nice place to stay if you are travelling near Catania. It is located between Catania and Taormina (both ~30 mins drive), so it was convenient for us to explore both. Limited dining options in the area and we have been told the on-site dinner is only available on Sunday and Monday. For us, we drove to Taormina for dinner which was lovely. The room was clean and in good condition. The extra heater was very useful as the weather was a bit cold. Basic amenities such as room slippers, shampoo, body wash and water are provided. The breakfast was more than enough with wide choice of bread, cheese, ham, eggs and fruits. The dining room had abundance of history as well. Overall the place was very quite and peaceful - we were not bothered by the noise from the roads like the other reviews. However on the night we stayed, the owner of the place had a mini party on the terrace until midnight with music. The building isn’t soundproof so we could hear the drum, the footsteps, etc. But everything went radio silent once it was over.

Dejligt landhus med gamle men fine detaljer, dog svært at nyde patio og have pga støj, da det ligger klods op ad motorvejen. Der er for mange katte efter min smag, og de ligger overalt på hynderne i udendørsmøblerne. Fantastisk udsigt fra patio til Etna og havet (men dog ingen udsigt i værelse). Bellissimo! Un angolo incantato! Immerso in una splendida vegetazione antico casale ristrutturato con gusto. Camere confortevoli; noi siamo in 4 e la camera era in realtà composta da 2 stanze, ciascuna dotata di condizionatore. Ottima biancheria, tutto molto pulito e curato nei dettagli. La signora che ci ha accolto gentilissima. Colazione deliziosa: ho gradito soprattutto la frutta fresca a volontà e torte e marmellate fatte in casa! Peccato solo per il rumore dell'autostrada vicina. Lo consiglio vivamente
