The staff and pub were brilliant. lovely food and service. The room was very dirty. the floor was filthy. Beds seemed clean. Towels dried on the rusty balcony you have to walk up to get to your room and were very rough.

What a friendly bunch they are at The Old Bell. Clear the new owners and motivated to make this a great spot for all. A truly warm welcome and great chat with the staff; all keen to learn and do things the right way. They really are a credit to the management. Rooms still need a little work, mattress on the bed was not great at all, but everywhere clean and tidy. Would happily stay again when in the area for work.

The worst experience I have had in many years in a UK Hotel. I had booked a 2 night stay for a work trip. Turned up at the hotel, and first the girl behind the bar had no idea about bookings, so she tried to find another staff member to check, after about 10 minutes she rang the owner and handed me the phone, after a short discussion the owner confirmed the booking and said someone would be right there to check me in. Waited at least another 10 minutes before a guy arrived, very casually and lead me to the room. This was at 5.30 in the evening, the corridors on the way to the room had piles of dirty sheets and towels on the floors which did not inspire confidence. The room was only partly made up with a bedspread thrown on the ground in the corner. In addition the room looked nothing like the pictures on Hotels.com. The guy apologised and said something about having a power cut during the day, and that was the reason for the mess. He called the owner and from what I could hear of the conversation it sounded like this place is completely disorganised. I told him I was not happy to stay and he agreed with my point of view, He agreed to cancel the booking and make sure that I received a refund. I have tried to contact them since but they haven't even bothered to answer me. I understand that things can go wrong from time to time, but it is how management deal with it that matters. And it this case they simply did nothing.
