The hotel setting is lovely and full of character. Our superior room was spacious but unfortunately no fridge in the room and there was nowhere to hang coats or dresses.
The big let down was the food. We ate at George’s bar on the first night. The food took 40 mins to arrive and it was cold and one meal was inedible. Even when it was returned to the kitchen the replacement meal was no better. The staff, although very pleasant, didn’t seem to know what to do. Tables were left uncleared and after 30 mins we had to ask for glasses and empty plates to be taken away.
Breakfast was also a disappointment. Poor, weak coffee and limited choice, the only cooked option offered to us was full English breakfast, which is not to my taste. Again, table clearing only happened when we asked staff to do so.
This is not my usual experience of the service of this group of hotels which added to the disappointment.
