Nice location and facilities. Bed a little on the hard side and the bathroom facilities were a little old fashioned but overall a nice place to stay

We enjoyed our stay. The staff were welcoming and friendly and the unit was clean, tidy, and comfortable. We did have a disturbed night one night with people talking outside till after 11:30. It would also be good to have information in the unit about local places to eat, things to do, and information such as checkout time, use of laundry, etc.

Bedroom is downstairs and bathroom/living at entry level - very unusual. New carpet and vinyl. The rest is very dated - mould in the bathroom which could easily be removed. Double bed has 'roll together'. Heat pump worked well.

We had a short stay at Alton Lodge over the weekend - a family group using two studio rooms and a larger family room - and were delightfully surprised at the standard of the Lodge, given it's one of Whakatane's cheapest.
The atmosphere is lovely and this aged motel has been lifted to a very high standard: everything is meticulously clean; the bed linens, pillows and towels are new and top hotel standard; the staff are super-lovely, very friendly and knowledgable, always happy to help; the pool was clean and kept at a lovely temperature - neither too hot nor cold, and without a strong chlorine smell; the beds are really comfortable and although we could see that this Lodge is aging, it didn't really matter when the highest standard of motel upkeep has been diligently applied.
For the price this is easily the best motel we've ever stayed at; we'll be back!

Pretty forgettable
Stayed for two nights, the checkin was excellent and the lady was helpful. The room was large and no steps to access. However, from 9pm until almost midnight on the Saturday loud music came through the walls, females could be heard screaming and laughing, with groups of them congregating outside my door. This was compounded by the fact the cars kept coming back and forth during the same period, making noise and the headlights shining through the room window, illuminating everything. Resultantly, I had only a few hours sleep and left very early the following morning. I doubt that I would stay again
