Basic room for a short weekend away, 5 mins walk to McDonald and tower. Budget stays for the need of just a bed and shower. Checked in 2 hours earlier, friendly receptionist. Wall is thin so light sleepers will need ear plug.

The good, the bad and the ugly sums up the Avon. The good included the host who provided great customer service and a warm welcome, the double en suite rooms I stayed in were of a good standard despite requiring some TLC to the décor and had some maintenance issues (like a broken shower head), the price paid was very reasonable offering value for money, the Wi-Fi worked well and the space was by in large clean. The bad was the lack of any food or beverage provision, so no breakfast, the old televisions, the noise from the street due to being unable to close one of the windows and the single room I stayed in for one night was very compact had nowhere to sit other than on the broken bed, the single room’s television was extremely small and therefore unwatchable. The ugly – well that has to be the outside of the building and the reception front room – when I first arrived at the property I nearly did not ring the bell and check in – the appearance of the exterior portrays a rundown hovel of a place and when get passed the disgustingly filthy front door first impressions do not get any better given the sparse, undecorated, uncared for, rubbish and clutter strewn front room of the property that acts as reception. Located five minute walk from the promenade, the beach, the Winter Gardens and the Tower is some twenty minutes walk from Blackpool North station. Rooms are extremely small, dangerously so as you can't even walk round the bed , and there was a great big radiator on the wall that I injured my hand and foot on at least a couple of times. Shower is raised high off the ground and I also slipped and hurt myself getting out due to wet floor and no anti slip mat. There just isn't enough of an effort made to improve or maintain the property itself. The second room we booked for my parents had a broken handle on the outside of the room door, the door itself needed a really heavy push to open, and didn't lock tight, one nudge and the Yale would not withstand it. Their bathroom door was hanging off also. Otherwise great price, friendly owner, and pleasant stay. It was clean enough, especially given the price, and the other issues. It was quiet enough also which was a surprise. Not at all soundproof but luckily it was quiet as I say. I would definitely stay here again, and as stated for the price itself I have stayed in worse at higher prices but I thought I would provide a proper honest review for folks to avoid disappointment. Many thanks for having us to the owner , as overall pleasant stay
