This modern, nicely styled hotel is really comfortable. Staff were friendly & helpful. We used a translation app for effective communication. The convenience stores on the other side of the road provide a good selection between them. We like to use the subway and found it was a hot walk to the station in the humid early autumn weather.

We had a pleasant stay at Mercure Beijing Downtown overall. The staff was very kind and always willing to help, although communication in English was somewhat limited at times. One of the highlights was definitely the breakfast—amazing variety and quality, with plenty of options to choose from each morning. The rooms were also very spacious and comfortable, and we appreciated having bottled water provided daily. One thing to note is that during this season, the hotel does not have air conditioning running—only a fan system. Unfortunately, this made the room warmer than we would have preferred, especially at night. Another downside was the limited dining schedule, as both room service and the on-site restaurant close at 9:00 PM, which can be inconvenient after a long day of exploring. Overall, it’s a solid option with great breakfast and comfortable rooms—just keep a few of these details in mind when booking.

The hotel is in a pretty central location, it’s pretty close to Hopson One mall which has plenty of shopping and dining options. The air conditioning units are abysmal and no matter how low you set it, the temperature in my room was averaged between 21°-23° the six nights I spent there even with the AC set at 17°. Staff are kind however they do not speak any English as advertised. It took an unsuccessful phone call, a visit to the front desk, two translation apps and three employees to answer the question ‘What time does the gym open?’. No smoking signs are place throughout the building however it’s so widespread that I could not only smell smoke in but saw several guests smoking and there are ashtrays throughout the corridors of the hotel that are regularly changed out which seemed very contradictory. It’s half-decent for the price but I would not stay again.
