The Castillo Magico! It’s like stepping into history. It was a privilege to meet and be hosted by the owner and her wonderful staff. We were lucky to stay in the bedroom of Edward James, very comfortable with stunning mountain views. The owner gave us a tour and explained the history of her grandfather’s house. There is a secret staircase that leads to a bar & restaurant next door, named after her grandfather. Breakfast was delicious, pastries, fruit and a cooked meal to order. The grounds are beautiful too. I’m only sorry we couldn’t stay longer.

Posada el Castillo is beautiful and historic house and a must when traveling to Xilitla. As a guest you are welcome to explore the terraces, game room, hallways and gardens. It truly is a castle. There a just a few wonderful rooms including the grand vista which features two king beds,couch, and sitting area with a balcony and private patio. The pool is fresh and inviting. The hotel features a private tour of Las Pozas by a knowledgeable and kind guide. The owner and hostess is attentive and super sweet. The staff is there for your every need. The hotel is safe, clean and a delight. The excellent restaurant serve a delicious menu. The experience is magical. This place is a must when visiting Xilitla. Stay here.

I want to be respectful because this was and continues to be a family home. I appreciate the history regarding the Edward James connection to the family. I would have loved to have stayed here 50 years ago, I’m sure it was grand. Now, sadly the rooms are just old and outdated. I live in a small colonial Mexican town so i know colonial charm, this is just old. Peeling paint, mismatched tiles, furniture and decor. The common areas are nice, breakfast room and food were good. Staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms just need new paint, a bathroom remodel and more outlets! There was only 1 electrical outlet in the main room and not near the bed! One nightstand so we had to drag a chair over to put next to the bed to set a phone, water etc. the location is central to everything although climbing the hill to go to centro is not easy. i expected more for the money.

Staff were pleasant. The room was up very narrow, steep steps which was quite difficult to navigate, and we feel this could have been pointed out in advance. There was no hairdryer which would have been welcome. The fact there were hardly any other guests maybe caused the lack of atmosphere. We have since read that the hotel has a film about its history which is offered to guests to watch, but we were not offered this. There was vagueness about the availability of a restaurant for the evening so we ended up eating elsewhere;staff were however happy to recommend alternatives.

I was put in a room with the bathroom window facing the entrance and the door right next to the office. No privacy or outdoor views. The first night the put me in another room right over the street and very noisy. The shower was set in a jacuzzi that didn’t work and the shower had no hot water. I could have been put in a quiet room with hot water in the larger building in back. This hotel is low quality with paper flowers and cane chairs that were repaired with nylon twine. The hotel is very uncomfortable and the breakfast they serve is low rate and was served late. The second night owners insisted I stay in the room between the entrance and the office, which is unacceptable especially at $130 a night in Mexico so I left didn’t stay there the second and third night which I had paid for. The owners/managers were cold and disrespectful. This was the worst hotel experience I have ever had.

Tiene muy buena ubicación en el centro de Xilitla con estacionamiento propio, es para quienes les gusta lo diferente, el personal es amable. Un hotel con personalidad, para seguir viviendo la experiencia del jardín de Edward James, te hacen sentir en casa de la familia Gastelum, ofrece un recorrido a las 7 pm para conocer la historia de la casa, y la estancia incluye desayuno.

El lugar es un Castillo antigüo que por su arquitectura te hace trasladarte en el tiempo, pero el servicio es de lo mejor. Nos hicieron sentir tan cómodos como en casa. Viajamos en familia con 4 hijos y a ellos también les encantó. La comida es muy rica y no se diga el panqué de plátano que te ofrecen durante el desayuno, hasta pedimos que nos hicieran uno para llevar. Luisa la administradora siempre estuvo muy pendiente durante nuestra estancia. Nos ofrecieron un Tour a Tamul el cual vale totalmente la pena. Los guias que te llevan es un personal muy culto y calificado. Pregunten por Isabel, la super recomendamos.
