The garden was lovely as was the hotel's proximity to A38 and the golf club. Beds were comfortable. Pictures on line suggest better rooms than what we were given! Staff very friendly, but most of them had been working there a very short time. One guy, named Pino, who said he was the manager had only been there 3 weeks! The young girl who booked us in didn't seem to know much about the surrounding area. She also didn't give us the tear off slip with the code to get in to the hotel if we were late returning, which we were and so we were locked out! Eventually after knocking and phoning, someone came to our rescue and let us in. Unfortunately we lost our key and had to pay £15 for a new one. Most hotels nowadays have the modern card system so if you lose it, you don't have to pay anything.
The hot water wasn't working properly for showers in the am. We really should have had a refund or the fee for the key waived as compensation. There was also a radiator on in the corridor near our room when it was 38 degrees!! We had to wait a long time for breakfast. I had the slimmer's breakfast but when it arrived I couldn't eat the eggs as they were like plastic. The tea was in an urn and undrinkable. Coffee was passable. Apparently the restaurant is a separate business which serves the hotel, but is part of its reputation, so the hotel overall is responsible for the quality. Overall our impression was that we he Hotel was incredibly disorganised and had the potential to be far better.
