We like solid wood furniture because we have previously stayed in an ultra posh Airbnb with flash IKEA type furnishings but bed bugs live in the chipboard under the laminate of IKEA-type furnishing, and in top-standard Instagram perfect beds we have been bitten by those critters that love the chipboard no matter how many anti-bedbug chemicals are used. Thus, the 70s (???) solid wood beds were a dream.
We are also old fashioned and tradition-loving when it comes to ceiling fans instead of air conditioning. The gentle wafting of hot dry air is for us the joy of the Subtropics.
As highly experienced travellers we also prefer places that are a little bit worn from time, it adds charm and a relaxed vibe.
We do, however, prefer laticed window shutters, or some sort of window security that allows air through when the window is open. As it is a bungallow one can worry sleeping with the window wide open. But, for the price we paid we had all the comforts of life, plus the genuine joy of genuinely exquisite little lizards on the hot paths between the bungallows and doves visiting our veranda with their coo coos, in search of bread crumbs.
The pool is far nicer when you are in it than it looks.
The reception is not wow factor but being on the hill with a bit of a view down to the ocean from the road outside the reception was lovely, if a tad shabby. It's a stunning island even when you are on a road with a breezeblock wall.
We would definitely stay again economically.
