This location was fantastic! Tucked away from Sol but walking distance to every neighborhood, amazing coffee across the street and perfectly appointed. I did find my room to be small but it had everything I needed.

Taking into account that this is a guesthouse it was perfect! There is no restaurant but lots of options a minute away. The aircon was great, bathroom perfect and the bed ideal

No coffee or even water in the room. Vending machine coffee in the hall wasn’t good.

We had a great stay and appreciated the staff helping us get situated after arriving a day late due to a horrific British Airlines experience. The rooms were spotless and the staff gave great suggestions, made us feel right at home. Thanks, Dolan & Laura

Very nice clean room: a little small perhaps but not oppressively so, and I'm guessing this kind of room size might be typical of the kind of building it was located in. Great central location, in particular was spot-on perfect for my wish to visit all of the 'big 3' art museums. Staff friendly and helpful but discreet, as befitting the kind of hotel it is. The two gentlemen I interacted with both spoke English well. Recommended.

This was the PERFECT location. Everything was walking distance from here. The only struggle we had was the size of the room. The room was very tiny for 2 persons BUT we just went to sleep. Madrid has sooo many things to do that you keep busy. Tbh e staff was very helpful. Breakfast was convenient. Would definitely go back

The property is very nice and the location is great. The rooms were clean and spacious with good amenities. The manager/owner was extremely helpful and provided all necessary information about checkin and location before. I would highly recommend Cálamo to anyone planning to stay in Madrid.

Could Live Here

Google maps took us right there but it was not so obvious. This is a neighborhood apartment building. The hotel occupies a couple of floors in the building. We had to call the hotel number so that a person could let us in. No issues coming and going after we received entry code. Staff is extremely pleasant and helpful. Neighborhood is excellent to blend amongst locals, and anything that you need is a short block or 2. You have about a 15 to 20 minute easy walk, maximum, to all your favorite attractions. Parking is expensive, EU38 a day, by plaza mayor. Do your homework.

8/10 Muy buena

We stayed for four nights. Roberto was an accommodating and helpful staff of Calamo and Artistic guesthouse. He carried our one big luggage for us upstairs when we arrived as there is no lift. There was a breakfast that we will miss because we were leaving early but he sorted out a ‘take away breakfast picnic’ for us the night before. Huge appreciation for this effort. Property was clean and modern, a usual small-ish size but there was fridge and table. Bathroom was good size and clean. Toiletries provided. Bed was comfy. Hallway noise can be heard at night for latecomers. Location was great, central to attractions and transport hubs. The breakfast is served outside the property which I am not sure is indicated on Expedia. Three nearby cafes/restos provide the breakfast and vouchers are given by Roberto (staff) on check in if this was included. It was a disadvantage for us because we did a couple of day trips out of Madrid which required an early start, ie outbound trains at 9am. Unfortunately out of these 3, only one, Brown bear bakery, opens the earliest which is 8am, making it a bit tight for time and only one option for breakfast really for the two days. Casa de Diego opens at 9am so you can eat there is you have a more relaxed itinerary. Both restos serve good breakfast. Casa de Diego won more than Brown bear for their fresh OJ, additional pastry, and posh ambience. The only catch, eggs are not included in the set menu, you have to pay extra compared to Brown bear.

It was a very nice hotel, in a nice old city neighborhood, and close to the center of the city.
