The fish and chips I had for the evening meal came with very cold/still frozen peas, so that had to go back, then I had to ask for a discount for the poorly prepared meal. The bed in the single room has a very uncomfortable and extremely soft mattress. Breakfast was good, with plenty on offer on the Full English.

Good pub atmosphere, yet room was very quiet and not disturbed by customers or traffic. Evening meal was tasty and substantial. Breakfast was good

Quite the find

It's an old pub so sound proofing isn't great (especially on a Saturday night) but the room was just lovely and the food (breakfast and dinner) was fabulous! Felt like a real find.

I Booked through hotels.com and when I arrived at the hotel was full and no room at the inn. This is not the fault of The George its Hotel.com that was responsible

Efficient booking processes. Nice Staff. Good Breakfast. Bed adequate comfort, pillows flattened to almost nothing in use. No hanging hooks anywhere (apart from wardrobe) A shame, as it was a nice room with very good decor.

Mediocre

Nice place, pet friendly, good breakfast! Bed badly made and carpet needed a vacuum. Room not properly stocked - had to ask for mug and spoon. Comfy bed though and nice spicy soup for dinner. Barman and friends chatted loudly and banged around below my room until 2 in the morning. So bad night’s sleep! Loudly banging front door to pub right below single room.

The George Inn was an excellent choice for our first night in England, due to its proximity to Stonehenge and the reasonable cost. All staff were attentive and helpful. We enjoyed a late afternoon walk on the country lanes of Middle Wallop. I want to mention a few things that did not bother us but may matter to other potential guests: - Room ("the family room"): because it was directly above the pub, we could hear music clearly through the floor until the pub closed. This did not bother us. The room was snug with the sofabed mattress open. Beds were comfortable, room was clean - The Expedia listing explicitly said that breakfast was not included in the price, but the George Inn provided us with a beautiful breakfast spread: fresh berries, yogurt, juice, coffee & tea, and a full entree off of their breakfast menu. It was a really nice surprise!

Georgeous Inn!

A super warm welcome from the lovely Narissa ..shown to our room and it was cosy and had everything we needed..settled in then had a super supper ..really delicious fresh food..had beers in our room..conked out ..lovely sleep..went down for a beautiful breakfast and after our walk in the local beautiful countryside, we returned for dinner..Alas the kitchen had closed..we accepted our fate and were happy with a bag of Walkers!!..But then Narissa and the wonder chef André offered to open the kitchen and do us anything we wanted!…we were so made up and had another gorgeous dinner…a wonderful gesture which made our stay extra special…Just what the well-being Dr ordered!.. Georgeous! Xxx

bed bug infestation!

In late August 2025 I stayed at this hotel with my family, it is bed bug infested! Over the 4 nights we awoke every morning with new painful bites, which increasingly we found very odd as we didn't see any mosquitos. However, the last night of our stay revealed the truth as I awoke in the middle of the night at around 230am to find a bed bug on my body! I quickly looked in the bed and found 2 more live bed bugs. Later in the bed sheets I found two shedded bed bug bodies, which is how they grow. Of course I was not able to sleep anymore that night resulting in an exhausting next day full of stress and anxiety as I had to check my family throughout the night to make sure they were not covered in bed bugs. My wife and I now have over 200 bites each on our bodies, including on the face and head, We are constantly uncomfortable as these bites are very painful and itchy and disfiguring. These are all signs that there is a major infestation in that room and perhaps in other rooms as well. We spent a great deal of time cleaning our things that were in that room and making sure we do not bring this infestation to our home. We are having to wash everything at high temperature, including clothes, blankets and toys, etc. We have taken other precautions that are time consuming, expensive and inconvenient. It is impossible to be sure that they do not contain bed bugs or eggs. I emailed the pub/hotel 4 times with no response, they do not care. Don't let this be you! Avoid!

The property is old, run down and not kept very clean. There is no AC so you have to keep the windows open with no screens. This leads to two problems, mosquitoes that will eat you alive and lots of loud car noise from the main road all night. The shower in the bathroom is smaller than a cruise ship shower and didn’t drain well. All in all, avoid this property. There is nothing around and food choice ended up being equally bad at a recommended restaurant.

Not a great experience but not really bad.

The George is a very attractive looking pub with a B&B. The bar area is quite appealing if not on the small side. I was kindly shown to my room. The room looked well presented. When I was left in the Family room I went to close the door, which wouldnt close unless the door was locked shut. Once that was overcome I went to go to the loo, imagine my surprise when I lifted the toilet seat to find some skid marks on the pan. The shower enclosure door was a quadrant door with 2 small double doors. Im a bit restricted with my movement so was pleased to see I didnt have to climb into a bath for a shower. I did however have to reinstall one of the shower doors as it was hanging by one wheel. Some limescale remover wouldnt go amiss. Other than that it was in reasonable order. I step back into the bedroom to see 1 out of 3 lightbulbs working. The room is well presented with a welcome folder on the desk. Its then I realise the carpet hadnt been hoovered and I dont think the skirting hadnt seen a duster in some time. I sit on the bed to nearly sink through the matress. I like a matress with at leastt some support. When I checked in I was I was handed a menu and asked to pick my breakfast I was then told breakfast will be between 8 and 9. That pretty much rules out any business customers, unless they have all the time in the world. In summary an ok place if you dont look to closely to the detail.

Booked a family room, as the room was in a family friendly pub. On arriving the room wasn’t ready, there was a party in the bar area and lots of used drinks and 1/2 eaten meals on the bar, only one of the three bulbs in the light worked and the door lock was repaired with some form of cardboard and didn’t lock easily. Some one came in and made up the second bed.The pillows and quilt were stained. The family room is located directly above the bar, they clearly had a party on which we were not aware of prior to booking and the party went on until midnight, with very load music and some questionable singing, when people left they were very loud in the car park and took a while to leave, the staff could even be heard laughing and joking while cleaning up. There is also a light right outside the bedroom window which makes the room bright overnight. The child I was staying with is SEND and was very triggered by the noise and light. I felt being a family friendly pub we would have a fairly settled night and was not expecting the amount of noise that we had which made me unable to sleep. The the noise and lights were too much for the child and caused him distress and we ended up leaving at 12:45 in the morning as he could not settle and neither could I. I handed in my key on the way out to be asked if I had payed for my room and food, I explained I had paid when I booked and hadn’t had any food and was just told to have a good night! I would not recommend this property for a family !

Ignored email: I'm afraid our stay was far from enjoyable. We chose the George from lots of options because we wanted to stay in a pub where there would be dinner, a bar and the football without driving. Soon after our arrival we were told the chef had called in sick so we would have to go elsewhere for dinner. That can't be helped but where was the Landlord to stand in and offer what was possible? When we got back, I settled in to watch the football only for the person running the bar who said she was only there as a favour to call last orders at 9pm. Everything was being turned off by 9.35 and I missed the last few minutes of the football which had turned into an exciting game. I was told I could take my unfinished pint to my room but the mood was lost and I abandoned it. The football was not available on the TV in my room as she claimed. By the way, people who came in to watch the football were also told she was closing and left. In the room, there were no cups for the kettle, the radiators were off (and electric heater supplied), the light above the mirror didn't work and the shower was the most useless I have ever experienced. In general the room was tired and needed refurbishing. I mean electric cables tacked to the skirting, exposed and loose central heating pipes, windows that need new hinges failing to block the noise of the road. Why a bath? Why not a proper electric shower? The world outside the George is no longer the 1970s. So, no, I'm afraid we won't be back.
