Staff were helpful and friendly. Room was comfy and view was lovely. Spa was fantastic Room service menu is limited and only available until 9pm. In the shower, there is no shower gel bottle so had to reach over the sink to get some shower gel. If there was a soap dish, I would have put some in there and brought into the shower.

Spa was great but our room was more like a motel room then an expensive hotel. Restaurant staff not friendly and everything was over priced

8/10 Very good

Really lovely stay. The bedroom was large & a huge bed! Very clean, modern but classic also the added air conditioning was welcomed in the June temperatures. We added breakfast and it was yummy. Only negative from us, was the bathroom had a very strong smell of bleach. We washed down the shower area but the smell remained, even more so when we closed the door. Overall we had a great stay. Thank you

2/10 Poor

A very run down hotel. Rooms are dated, no air con, dirty, bathrooms terrible. Pool access is not included, have to pay £15 per person. Spa is run down and half the things are broken. Checkin was rushed, room was filthy with cobwebs, dirty floor not hoovered, drink spilled over the walls. Staff didnt really care. Bed was horrible. Make sure you dont stay if a wedding is on as will be npise until 1am at least. Very poor hotel

Cleaning in the room was not great. We arrived to a dressing table covered in biscuit crumbs. After using coffee cups and rinsing in the bathroom, we found them back next to the kettle tray, but dirty with dried coffee stains in the bottom. The hotel itself is ok, it’s an old building so will have the quirks that go with that, however maintenance could be better, we have a couple of lamps with no bulbs, struggled to open and close the window. The Spa was very good, food was good. But I’d not be in a rush to return. Staff were hit and miss, some were wonderful and some really didn’t want to be there.

Incompetance stems from manangement level

Shocking ... spoke to Hotel Manager and had agreed a full refund and said would email immediately and copy Hotels.com in as agreed. Still hasnt bothered. Which goes to show the level of incompetance at this hotel stems from Mananagement Down. Had a meeting with him this morning to go through all the horrendous experience at Mottram last night.

6/10 Good

Disappointing

Not as nice as you would expect of a 4* hotel. The room decor is a bit outdated with paint coming off on the windows, the corridors had clean and dirty linen piled up on the window sills, there were dirty cups just left in the corridor, a ladder seemed to be a permanent feature! When we arrived at 3:45 we were told our room wasn’t ready but that quickly changed when I said we needed to get ready and be out within the hour. Rubbish water pressure made showering tricky. Coffee granules from previous stay spilt over tray. Breakfast was cold and chaotic, not enough plates, having to ask repeatedly for coffee and slow to restock the cooked goods. Overall not up to scratch.

Great stay

A lovely hotel, spotless and beautiful grounds, the garden at the front of the hotel was a mass of colour. The only downside was having to pay extra if you wanted to use the pool, as a guest I think it should be included in the price.

I had the most amazing experience staying at Champneys in Cheshire. The venue was breathtaking, the staff were amazing and took great care of us. The room was immaculate and enjoyed my stay here. I would definitely recommend staying here :-)

Champneys Mottram Hall – Wellness Retreat or Overpriced Sauna? We were really looking forward to a relaxing night at Champneys Mottram Hall. For over £200 a night, you’d expect comfort. Instead, we got a masterclass in how not to do hospitality. We asked to see a room first — after reading quite a few bad reviews (which turned out to be accurate). The room they showed us was fine… but then it wasn’t available anymore. So we booked another one, slightly cheaper, still overpriced. It wasn’t even ready, despite being listed as available online. We were sent to the restaurant to wait, where the only food was burgers and fries — at a wellness resort. Classy. When we finally got the room key, we stepped into what felt like a furnace — at least 40°C, no air conditioning, barely openable windows, and a tiny desk fan trying to cool it down. Outside the window? A wall of deafening industrial ventilators. The room was loud, boiling, and totally unfit for sleep or rest. If I wanted to be roasted alive next to jet engines, I’d have booked a Ryanair tarmac picnic. Save your money. This isn’t luxury — it’s a loud, sweaty disappointment dressed up as a spa break.

Not the best experience

The first thing the receptionist said on arrival was can I have a swipe of a card . There weren’t any pleasantries and everything was an additional £15 charge (breakfast and to use the gym) . The champagne bar had one member of staff on and it was really busy so he was rushed off his feet and was very stressed out . He had never made a cocktail in his life and just had a list of ingredients on a piece of paper he was trying to follow . Not a great experience for me or fair on the staff. Although we had paid £15 each to basically use a couple of machines , other hotel guests were just using it for free and following other guests in. The breakfast experience was awful . We went to the restaurant around 9.30 and was met with chaos. No tables clean , staff running around , other customers complaining and leftover food on the hot buffet . Ended up clearing a table and setting it up ourselves . We actually gave up on asking for hot drinks as asked several times but there was no staff. You would think with the £ per room and the additional £15 charges for anything I asked about , they would be able to employ more staff . I have been to a couple of other Champneys hotels and they have been amazing. A completely different experience to Mottram Hall which was very disappointing and had been booked for a birthday treat .

Ultimately Disappointing

The hotel is tired and needs a revamp. Bathroom is mouldy and shower is poor. Room decor is disappointing- paint scuffed on walls. Service from reception almost non-existent. Gruff abrupt welcome and nobody ever answered the phone when calling for room service. Spa was excellent but was disappointed that there’s no hotel to spa access - you need to walk out of the hotel and around to the spa.

Disabled facilities were poor. Only one room was embarrassing waiting outside the only one to assist my husband who has Altzimers who needs help.

we were disappointed with our stay the staff were very young and demonstrated a lack of experience at times it was chaos. food was very poor you would expect a much higher standard for a hotel of its standing

Lovely hotel but...

A one night stay re a business meeting the next day. Lovely hotel and surroundings, but beware there is aircraft noise from nearby Manchester airport planes on the flight route. Hotel doesn't have sound proofing re traditional building. Food prices were nothing short of ridiculous in the restaurant and no beers on draft. Overall lovely for a wedding not for business overnights
