This historic hotel was a charming and unique place to stay! The location in the heart of Downtown Monterey was perfect--within walking distance of many local food establishments and attractions-- we even walked to the aquarium from here--an easy 30 minute walk on a paved, safe coastal trail for pedestrians and bikers. The architecture and the interior design and furniture really showcased its early 1900s charm--they really don't make them like that anymore! The room we booked was the cheapest one and as such, it was pretty small. The bed was RIGHT there once you open the door. I did appreciate the vintage furniture in the room--truly beautiful. There was one window that looked out onto the neighboring apartment complex--not the best view and not the best for natural light, but we did get a nice breeze with the window open! Not complaining about these things, just sharing observations. My one complaint, though, would be that I wished that our room had a mini fridge in it. As mentioned earlier, delicious local eateries abound, and I am someone who often cannot finish an entire entree. I would have loved to have a fridge so that I could save my food to eat the next day instead of letting it go to waste. Overall lovely, though and would stay again! I think next time I'll pay more for one of the nicer rooms, though.
