Beds are uncomfortable, property needs some updating. It’s in fairly rough shape nice location overall close to lots of things, shopping waterfront, and lots of amenities. But the hotel condition definitely needs some love.

The room was spacious, clean and comfortable and as depicted in the photos. Bonus that the windows opened and the neighbourhood was quiet at night. The property has a lot of character, and quirks for being it's age, and it also seemed well maintained. The rooms have a very small fridge and cooktop. There was no microwav in the room. The jetted tub worked well and didn't have the need to use the fireplace, although there was firewood available. An enjoyable stay.

The rooms are very small, no sink in the bathroom, only one is in the bedroom? The window opens to other windows in other guest rooms so no privacy. Bed was very comfortable and the staff was very helpful. Lots of shopping around hotel. the picture of the bar area is misleading, no such area in the hotel?

Great location, surrounded by public parking lots. Close to everything with an old nostalgic hotel and surroundings. Great downtown vibe with lots of pubs and eateries near by. Short walk to parliament and all shopping & amenities. I’d definitely stay again. My only complaints are. The blackout blinds cover the ac unit. Sleep in darkness & heat or be blinded by the Earls building lights all night (only bc that’s where our room was) and be cool. The music was a wee loud at 11pm on a Sunday night but not terrible. Overall though.. I’d stay again, and ask to be on a side or back room

The hotel is definitely older with an older bathroom and no amenities. No sink in the bathroom only the shower and toilet so it was inconvenient to have the one little sink in the mini kitchenette which had no plates or cutlery. Quiet at night despite being very loud outside. No hair dryer and noisy AC window unit. Brought out service dog and was told there was no dogs allowed even though I had already told them we were bringing him. Then told I was to pay for a dog cleaning fee which I have never had to do before. Front counter staff not helpful when asked about the policy.

The staff were so welcoming and helpful. I felt good as soon as I arrived. The location is perfect. Right in the heart of the historic downtown area. Only a few blocks and from both the Empress Hotel and the Parliament building. You can see them as soon as you walk out of the hotel. It's also right next to the original Murchie's tea which was fun. The room was cute and clean. Not fancy but perfect for what I wanted. Beds were comfy. Air Conditioning worked great. Amazing value for the price. I would highly recommend it for anyone wanting a budget friendly motel with a perfect location. Thanks!

The hotel had a wonderful rustic charm, and our room was spacious with lots of character. We had a street view, which added to the overall experience and gave us a great feel for the area. The location was excellent and very central. We were able to walk to all of the main attractions, which was incredibly convenient. The hotel is currently undergoing some renovations, so check-in was a little confusing. There wasn’t any clear signage indicating where the front desk was, so I had to do a bit of a hunt to find it. Unloading was also a little tricky because the street directly in front of the hotel was closed. We had to unload across the street before moving our vehicle to the underground parking, which was about half a block away. Despite those minor inconveniences, we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend this hotel!

The location is absolutely perfect. Right in the downtown area. They do not have parking on the property. So you have to hunt for that yourself, and then drag all your luggage to the hotel. Between noon and 10 o’clock the street in front of the hotel is closed off to vehicles. The area is safe, the facilities are older, which is fine. They’re in the midst of doing some remodel, the rooms are small. The bed was comfortable and they had plenty of televisions and what not. It’s almost as if it is a boutique hotel. Knowing what I know now I would go back.

Decent rates and excellent location. Busy downtown area, so a bit of street noise, but not too bad. Definitely a funky character building and not a grey cookie-cutter establishment. Staff was good and things were relatively clean. Downsides: - hallway had a musty smell and plumbing needs some major upgrades. Bathroom faucet was barely attached; kitchen sink made some terrifying noises and started belching soapy water from someone draining a tub upstairs. - no lamps on the night stands. Just odd. - fridge was turned on full blast and ruined some groceries by freezing them. - Bathroom had no fan and door had no latch. - 3/4 windows had no screen; the one screen was broken and wouldn’t close properly - the entire ground floor is stairs and elevators. Reception desk is on the next flight up. Again just a bit odd.

We stayed here to 2 nights, mid-week in July. The location is AMAZING for easy walkability downtown Victoria. The hotel is older, which is fine. We showered and slept there, that was it. Government Street is closed off (pedestrian only) from 12-10. So parking near the hotel to unload our suitcase was tricky, but we managed. It was frustrating actually. There are a lot of one way streets to maneuver. We managed to get close enough. We parked our car in the lot discounted by the hotel for 2 nights. We were able to walk everywhere else. We took the bus to Craigdarroch castle & back to Phillips Brewery, from there it was a short walk back to the hotel. The bus was easy to navigate with Google Maps, it came by every 15 minutes or so. The hotel is in a FANTASTIC location. The front desk of the hotel is on the 2nd floor. That was strange. There is no signage on the front door. That was also strange. You have to look up to read the awning. The women at the front desk was dry and hated her job. She got the job done, but we got zero smiles from her. The man at the front desk at check out was quite pleasant. The room was clean. The bed was comfortable. It had a double shower, TV, AC, mini fridge. Everything we needed. The location and the price for that area were great. We would absolutely stay here again.
