Top neighborhoods in San José del Cabo

Centro Histórico San Jose del Cabo
Centro Histórico San Jose del Cabo charms visitors with cobblestone streets lined with colonial buildings housing vibrant art galleries and boutique shops. The 18th-century Mission San José anchors this cultural heart, while Plaza Mijares buzzes with local energy. Thursday Art Walks transform evenings into open-air celebrations where you can meet artists and browse their work. The neighborhood serves up delicious traditional Mexican cuisine alongside upscale farm-to-table restaurants. Boutique hotels in converted colonial buildings offer intimate accommodations with courtyards and rooftop terraces. This walkable district lets you explore everything easily on foot, though sturdy shoes are recommended for those historic cobblestones.

Zona Hotelera
Zona Hotelera hugs the coastline with stunning views of the Sea of Cortez. Spend your days lounging on pristine beaches, playing championship golf courses, or booking sport fishing charters from the marina. The natural beauty of San Jose Estuary offers a peaceful contrast to resort life, while Plaza Mega Comercial Mexicana handles your shopping needs. Upscale resort restaurants serve fresh seafood with ocean views, though you'll need a rental car to explore beyond your hotel. Most accommodations feature multiple pools, spas, and private beach access. The area maintains a relaxed atmosphere with contemporary Mexican architecture and meticulously landscaped grounds.

Downtown San Jose del Cabo
Downtown San Jose del Cabo charms visitors with colorful colonial streets and authentic Mexican character. The iconic Mission Church stands proudly over Plaza Mijares, where weekly Art Walks showcase local talent in numerous galleries. Cobblestone pathways lead to bustling markets filled with handcrafted treasures, from silver jewelry to traditional textiles. The neighborhood offers delicious Baja cuisine and fresh seafood at plaza-side restaurants with mariachi ambiance. While limited lodging exists in the historic core, the area is wonderfully walkable with most attractions just steps apart. Taxis and local buses easily connect downtown to nearby beach areas.

Costa Azul
Costa Azul's golden beaches and world-class surf breaks make this San José del Cabo neighborhood a paradise for wave chasers and sun worshippers alike. The famous Zippers break hosts international surfing competitions while scenic coastal walkways offer spectacular whale watching during migration season. Between surf sessions, visitors can stroll along the shoreline or dip their toes in the calm waters of the Sea of Cortez. Resort restaurants and beachfront palapas serve fresh seafood with ocean views just steps from the hotel. Most visitors stay in the beachfront properties that line the shore, offering infinity pools overlooking the water. A rental car is the best bet for exploring beyond the resort zone, though most beach attractions are within walking distance.

El Rosarito
San José del Cabo's El Rosarito neighborhood offers attractions including Museum of Playas de Rosarito.

Learn more about San José del Cabo
Watching humpback whales breach from beachfront bars feels almost unfairly commonplace in this seaside retreat. The historic Art District reveals a sophisticated side, where galleries showcase local talent between colonial buildings painted in sunset hues. Golf courses perch dramatically on oceanside cliffs, challenging players to focus on their swing rather than the spectacular views. Unlike its rowdier sibling Cabo San Lucas, this city maintains a dignified charm with cobblestone streets and family-run restaurants serving the day's catch. Costa Azul Beach attracts surfers while Palmilla Beach offers calmer waters for swimming. Visit the Thursday evening Art Walk when galleries stay open late and artists mingle with visitors over complimentary wine.

Secrets Puerto Los Cabos - Adults Only - All Inclusive
"Todo estuvo de maravilla fue la primera vez en ese hotel la verdad todos muy atentos y el mesero que estaba en el área de las albercas Jorge súper atento amable le doy un abrazo 100 por su excelente servicio y Gracias a todos"
Paradisus Los Cabos - Adults Only - All Inclusive
"Great pick for a relaxing or romantic getaway. Great food, staff and swimmable beach with service. Loved Angel at the pool, Edith the bartender and Carlos our concierge. With Expedia Platinum we were upgraded to reserve which was a pleasant surprise. Nightly entertainment was lacking and the lobby bar was hot and not happening like other resorts, nonetheless, I would love to come back here."
Royal Solaris Los Cabos & Spa - All Inclusive
"the place was a bit outdated , but my room was huge , also was ocean view and jacuzzi tub and I enjoyed the specialty restaurants , Staff was kind and very attentive , but keep in mind ind the beach is not swimmable also your in San Jose we wanted to stat in los Cabos San Lucas which is More action , they also needed more entertainment and more activities to keep you occupied , Besides them also trying to sell me a 26k travel membership I had a relaxing time and the pool was magnificent make sure you get up early and throw a towel on your chair before you get left out the umbrella chairs , and get sunburned."
Hotel El Ganzo - Adults Only
"Perfect for couples, staff and service is great."
Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos- All Inclusive
"The staff is amazing and very attentive!"
Hyatt Place Los Cabos
"Only stayed for one night, but it had everything we needed and more ."
Zadun Los Cabos, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve
"Staff was amazing and very helpful! I liked the concept of the personal butler. Rooms were clean, large and spacious. Property was very beautiful. We didn’t have a bad meal at any of the restaurants including pool service. Meals were delicious. We went in August so it is low season and extremely hot. We are from Texas so I thought I knew hot but when you mix in humidity be prepared! It is also time for hotel repairs, they were repairing the hotel restaurant next to the pool, as well as there was construction going on (not sure if it was hotel or next door). Which was a complete bummer because it was very loud. We couldn’t hear it from our room thankfully. Pool area did need a bit of TLC. Especially the glass surrounding the adult pool. Kids were separated from adults which was nice. Adult main pool could have been a bit larger. The spa was beautiful but extremely expensive, $600 for a 90 min massage is excessive."
JW Marriott Los Cabos Beach Resort & Spa
"The room was outstanding. Nice/Clean, turn down service nightly, top notch. The water wasn’t necessarily hot, which was a huge disappointment so I didn’t get to use the beautiful spa tub, since the shower was lukewarm. The staff was very helpful for check in and concierge only. The restaurant staff mediocre, and the pool staff not helpful at all, had to almost scream for service. Breakfast, breakfast was expensive if you go for the buffet. If you eat somewhat normal portion sizes, you’ll save a grip if you just order from the menu. When checking in, go ahead and allow the $250 hold per day on your credit card if you can afford it, makes it easier to charge to room. You won’t nearly spend that much if you’re traveling alone. And we ate off-site most of the time. Speaking of off-site, this propertly is far from Cabo San Lucas, maybe 25-40 minutes away, and not walking distance to anything, not even downtown. But ubers are not expensive. I only did dinner once, very great steak, otherwise all other foods were a letdown. Go off-site for meals. Better bang for your buck. Beach isn’t swimmable or for that matter even walkable, roped off. I didn’t do the spa. For the most part, the property was romantic and beautiful, clean and breathtaking views. Other than that, location, meals, you can do better staying in town, or Cabo. This was too far from everything and no entertainment, except 1 night inside their expensive restuarant, where i had a steak taco to go."
Hilton Los Cabos
"Wonderful on all fronts! Highly recommend. ✨"
