Aoi Ward
Aoi Ward blends Japanese history and natural beauty in one captivating package. The vermillion gates of Shizuoka Sengen Shrine stand against mountain backdrops while stone paths wind through Sumpu Castle Park's reconstructed turrets and moats. On clear days, cherry blossoms frame breathtaking views of distant Mount Fuji. Outdoor enthusiasts can explore hiking trails or wander through peaceful temple gardens with traditional landscaping. Traditional ryokans with tatami rooms and communal baths offer authentic stays with included kaiseki meals. The dining scene features family-run soba shops and specialties like Shizuoka oden in a tranquil atmosphere. Well-connected by the JR Tokaido Line and local buses, getting around is convenient while maintaining the ward's classical Japanese character.

Shimizu Ward
Shimizu Ward blends maritime charm with cultural treasures along Suruga Bay's scenic shoreline. Stroll the waterfront promenade for refreshing sea breezes and Mount Fuji views on clear days. Fresh tuna practically jumps from boat to plate at the bustling fish market, while S-Pulse Dream Plaza offers shopping and museums perfect for curious minds. The neighborhood shines with authentic dining where seafood takes center stage in local restaurants and market stalls. Most attractions cluster along the harbor, making exploration easy on foot. Accommodations range from business hotels to traditional ryokan, many offering bay views that capture Shimizu's coastal magic.
Suruga Ward
Suruga Ward showcases the quieter side of Japanese life with neighborhood parks and cultural gems tucked between residential streets. Art lovers can spend hours at the Serizawa Keisuke Art Museum, while history buffs will appreciate the ornate Kunozan Toshogu Shrine with its traditional architecture. Mount Nihondaira offers breathtaking views of Mount Fuji across tea plantations and Suruga Bay. Family-run restaurants serve local specialties like cherry shrimp and green tea at modest prices. Most accommodation options are cozy minshuku guesthouses or small business hotels that provide an authentic glimpse into Japanese hospitality. Local buses connect easily to JR Shizuoka Station, making this peaceful residential area surprisingly accessible.

Toyoko Inn Shizuoka-eki Kita-guchi
"The hotel was clean and the staff was friendly. It was very good value for the price."
Shizuoka Town Hotel
"I recently stayed at Shizuoka Town Hotel for about a week in July-August 2026. Though I was satisfied with my stay, there were some minor drawbacks that affected my experience. The reception and housekeeping staff team were generally professional and welcoming, and kept my room, the lobby, and the breakfast area in a clean, uncluttered state. The signage and instructions on check-in/check-out and amenities were also easy to understand. The provided daily breakfast is basic, but works well for the price. The location has ready access to JR Shizuoka and Shin-Shizuoka station via a nearby underground walkway, which I appreciated. It is also close to the historic Sumpu Castle, which is an important local landmark for sightseeing. However, the nightlife-heavy neighbourhood is a downside for me, which I should have looked up on Street View before deciding to book. For those like me who are not interested in nightlife, there are other comparable hotels closer to JR Shizuoka or Shin-Shinzuoka station that may be a better fit. Overally, this is a decent hotel for the price. I would recommend it for a budget solo traveller considering a stay in central Shizuoka with easy access to JR and local rail transport."
