Breakfast was amazing, with excellent service.

This is a charming, family-run inn near Highclere Castle (Downton Abbey). The accommodations were comfortable although simple, and the pub is fantastic, with really excellent food. The service by the family that owns th Inn and their employees is very good. The prices are reasonable, and the locals are friendly. The garden is very pretty also. No complaints, would stay again. The tomato soup and goat cheese salad were standouts.

If you are looking for quintessential English charm you'll find it here. Such a stunning property. The rooms were very well done and although they are in a very old building they are quite modern in their fit and finish. I can't write this review without mentioning the food. It was spectacular, probably the best food we ate on our entire 17 day vacation, big props to the chef. We would definitely stay again if the opportunity presents its self. Had a great stay at the Hare and the Hound. Great patio next to the restaurant to gather after a fun day and breakfast was really well put together. Room was cozy and comfy and the staff left a nice little surprise in the room.

Staying at Ye Olde Red Lion was a fun experience. It is probably the most unique place I've stayed with its blending of old, old and new and updated rooms. I would stay here again. We were in Arran Room which was very nice other than the mattress should be replaced. It is uncomfortable. The outside grounds need some cleaning and TLC, too. Lovely stay. The hotel is in a great location with good walks around, close to Newbury and the Watermill Theatre. The rooms were very clean, staff were friendly and excellent breakfasts. Recommend it

The hotel is actually a few cozy rooms above a pub. The rooms are spacious enough. I have also stayed at the Lodge in Newbury and the Dolphin was miles nicer. I was worried about noise facing the street, but it was very quiet. I never heard any noise from the pub. The staff were very nice and accommodating. This felt more like staying at a friend’s house. The staff are only there during limited hours, so if you are coming and going early and late you may find it inconvenient to get towels or...

The room was fine and clean and so was the bathroom which is always most important to me. Only 1 thing I didn't like - no phone in room which could be a big problem in case of emergency.

Very friendly and helpful staff. High end Bosch coffee maker in my room but I needed a demonstration to learn how to make it work (it made excellent coffee for a machine). Breakfast is cereal they give you the evening before: there's no cooked breakfast. Small hotel and no one is on-site in the morning for check-out: you leave your key in the lock. Dinner was good.
