Top neighborhoods in Boca Chica

Los Coquitos
Los Coquitos neighborhood serves up the dream beach experience without fancy resort prices. The stunning white sand of Boca Chica Beach stretches before you with gentle turquoise waves perfect for swimming. Palm trees sway overhead while colorful fishing boats bob in the bay. You can snorkel in clear shallow waters or just kick back with a cold Presidente beer as local vendors offer fresh coconuts and grilled seafood. Getting around is simple with walkable sandy paths connecting everything you need. Budget-friendly guesthouses and family-run hotels line the shore, typically costing much less than big resorts. Traditional comedores serve catch-of-the-day meals while street vendors offer authentic Dominican snacks from morning until sunset.

La Caleta
La Caleta dazzles with pristine Caribbean beaches where powdery white sand meets crystal-clear turquoise waters perfect for swimming and snorkeling. The waterfront promenade buzzes with local vendors and the rhythmic sounds of merengue floating from nearby spots. Explore the underwater national park or visit Dream Casino when you need a break from the sun. Beachfront restaurants serve up mouthwatering fresh seafood and traditional Dominican dishes in casual settings with ocean views. Most visitors get around using taxis or motoconchos since public transit is limited. Accommodations range from boutique hotels to beachfront resorts, all capturing that laid-back Caribbean charm that makes La Caleta special.

Altos De Chavon
Step into a replica 16th-century Mediterranean village where cobblestone streets lead to stunning artisan workshops and galleries. Altos de Chavón's stone buildings house the prestigious School of Design while the impressive 5,000-seat amphitheater overlooks the Chávón River valley. St. Stanislaus Church offers panoramic views of the tropical landscape from its bell tower. Upscale Mediterranean and Dominican fusion restaurants with scenic terraces dot the village, though they close by 10 PM. Since there's no lodging within Altos de Chavón itself, most visitors stay at nearby Casa de Campo resort or Boca Chica hotels just a short drive away.

Reparto Ibarra
Reparto Ibarra offers an authentic slice of Dominican life just minutes from Boca Chica's famous white-sand beaches. This residential neighborhood trades tourist buzz for local flavor, with pastel-painted homes and friendly faces. Kids play in narrow streets while neighbors chat on porches. The Caribbean's crystal waters are just a 15-minute stroll away, perfect for those wanting to experience both local culture and ocean waves. Small family-run guesthouses offer clean rooms with genuine Dominican hospitality. Local comedores serve mouthwatering rice and beans for a few dollars, and corner stores stock essentials. Most visitors explore on foot or hop on motoconchos for quick trips to the livelier beachfront.

Bella Vista
Bella Vista's pristine Caribbean beachfront dazzles with turquoise waters meeting powdery white sand. The lively malecón buzzes with beachside bars serving cold Presidente beer while colorful fishing boats bob nearby. Snorkeling adventures await at the coral reef just offshore, perfect for travelers seeking both relaxation and aquatic thrills. Beachfront palapas serve fresh seafood and Dominican classics like pescado frito at prices ranging from budget to upscale. Accommodations span from affordable guesthouses to all-inclusive resorts, all within walking distance of the ocean. Públicos run frequently to Santo Domingo, making day trips easy for those wanting to explore beyond this coastal paradise.

A Caribbean playground where turquoise waters of Boca Chica Beach remain shallow for hundreds of feet, creating a natural swimming pool perfect for families. Merengue rhythms spill from beachfront bars where locals teach impromptu dance lessons. La Caleta Underwater National Park offers spectacular snorkeling among submerged sculptures and vibrant coral. Take a boat trip to La Matica Island for a quieter beach experience away from vendors selling fresh coconuts and souvenirs. The Nautical Club provides water sport rentals for those seeking adventure beyond sunbathing. When hungry, follow locals to modest restaurants serving fresh catch-of-the-day with tostones and cold Presidente beer. Save time for sunset, when the sky performs a color show that puts the day's beauty in perfect perspective.

Four Points by Sheraton Santo Domingo
"Overall stay was ok for 1 night. Property was being remodeled, which is mentioned via letter in each room. Small power outages, which fortunately were very short. Room was clean, and staff was very helpful with early room availability and easy check out process."

"Fantastic service"
Hotel Anselmo
"Overall, I had a good experience. This is a great hotel for a short stay when arriving in or leaving Santo Domingo, especially because it’s conveniently located near the airport. The food is very good and reasonably priced, and the breakfast offers several choices. The staff may be limited, but everyone I encountered was friendly, helpful, and willing to assist. The hotel also has two pools, including a very large main pool. My biggest concern is the size of the rooms and especially the bathrooms. There is very little space around the beds, and it’s easy to bump your legs on the corners. The bathrooms are extremely tight, and the position of the door makes entering, exiting, and even using the toilet uncomfortable. Some A/C units could also use improvement. Another issue is the entrance from Las Américas Highway. The hotel needs a larger, more visible sign before the entrance so drivers have enough time to slow down. It’s very easy to miss the entrance, especially if you’re unfamiliar with the area. Overall, I would recommend this hotel for one or two nights, particularly when arriving in the country or before heading to the airport. With a few improvements, it could be even better."
